Looking forward to tomorrows pics buZZsaw BRAD! or should I say today's pics by time you read this? Yeah, it was a humid one today, but you must've ate your Wheaties this morning!
Well the weather is beginning to cool nicely. Or has been. Think it’s going up again. Was nice there for a few days. I actually got a little more accomplished than usual. Go get at it Brad!!
Are you committed to moving it all by the end of the month? That's a huge job! Great looking oak, for sure.
He didnt give me a date, but said end of month. Kinda wished i had gone there more often, but other scores and if i dont have a deadline, ill drag my feet (i think they call it procrastination) Luckily, the wood is going across the street to my friends where i have six cord already stored from last Fall/Winter. I need to get pallets and ideally would stack the wood as i haul it there (my original intent) but may end up dumping. My original guesstimation was 3-4 cords for the score. Wont know til its all stacked. The oak will go first. Half cord per truck I will be building a large lean to for him to store his wood. Hastily stacked and covered wood. Ive tried to convince him of the three year plan but he is not a die hard hoarder...like us! Him and the neighbor have over a dozen huge white oaks we will be felling this winter.
That they would, but all are dead from GMC kill off. Big suckers too....20-24"DBH. I felled three already for him last fall and one for the neighbor. The neighbor had a second cut down and i got the wood. I told my friend it will be his job to make trails though the woods. Luckily the terrain is okay for a yard tractor.
The heart wood is good. Some deader than others. We tried to sell one huge trunk last fall but the two mills i called were swamped with big oak. So yes they would make great timber! If i remember Joe, you dont have any white oaks on your lot?
Not many but I have a field full of nice logs. I was implying to use them for your friends wood shed Then your nickname can be buzzsawmill Brad.
Well sharpen your chains Brad. Just saw an add on FBM. 4000 cords of hardwood logs free for the taking in your neighborhood. Your gonna be busier than a one toothed beaver. And probably single too. LOL
Believe it or not ive scrounged enough material for minimal cost to build it. Maybe 36'x4' wide and high enough on both sides so one doesnt hit their head. Got a bunch of 2x10 PT at 90% off, bunch of reclaimed PY2x6, PT4x4's, 2'x12' reclaimed aluminum roof panels and 40x48 pallets. Maybe $50 total out of pocket. It would be cool to mill lumber. I was noodling some red oak today and was thinking of it. It'd have to be short and smaller as i dont have a tractor. buZZsawmill BRAD, has a nice ring to it.
Went yesterday for three hours. Worked on splitting and noodling. It was HUMID, but shady. Forgot my wiping towel too! Got soaked but ended up processing half a cord. growing stack of non oak splits. Freed up this birch prop log. Turns out it was propped up too. No rot or punk! When i left. Still maybe 1/2 cord to process. growing mound of oak splits nuggets and uglies accumulating. 460 got hit with the ax. Put it down too close in my haste.
Went this afternoon for a couple hours. Bad idea! Still had some shade, but after maybe 1/4 cord split, i split. No cutting. Got home and checked the dewpoint...mid 70's, no wonder. Forgot my camera, but the oak mound got bigger!
That little cool spell was a tease. Even early in the morning wasn’t great today. Everything’s wet and the sun turns it into sweat.
