Let it rain down the wood. You are getting the full benefits of wood heat, while you're cuttin' and when ya burnin'. Looking great there.
Before and after. After (just one truck load). That center stick will be taken to my parents, so saving it for last. 95lbs in the airbags. It was a helluva load! Boss walked me around to the back to show me the logs dropped. There’s about 4 and one is every bit as big as the largest one in the pic above! My processing area is going to become a mini mountain of oak!! Won’t touch it till it gets cool out. Working in this heat is taxing. The amount of sweat my body is producing amazes me. I leaned over to refuel on the tailgate and it was a steady drip.
looks like that oak didnt know what hit it. I hear ya about the sweat. Im looking forward to making firewood in the cool weather and ill bet you are too The Wood Wolverine
Think of it as "de-toxin" your body, like they do at the trendy spas and clubs, but you not paying for membership....
Picture of the logs makes them look small. I noticed the noodles. Then once you see the half’s in the truck it all makes sense I’ve noticed cameras do that
For sure. So this evening I get to the location and after I left last night, Tony moved the logs with his bobcat. I believe he didn’t want the truck driving through his yard. No big deal, but he put them deep into some stones. I couldn’t get the whole way through and there was NO way the two of us could roll it. Cuts are about 16/17” apart. At this point he was eating supper so I shifted gears and moved to another log. I rolled these down the cell tower road beside his property and they made a nice load! Back breakers for sure. 24” bar for reference. All said and done, out of the shower and sat down to eat at 9:10.
Did I mention I’m completely beat? It was about 75 degrees or so with 95% humidity. After he was done eating, he broke out the bobcat to roll the big log and I put a round from the other tree under one of the other sticks. So I finished cutting up the big one and noodled them in 1/2 for Thursday. Out of state for a business trip tomorrow, so I get a break. I noticed this on the other side of the road. Boss said no one would mind if I took it. SMH, like I don’t have enough right!
Ahhhh! the time we spend hoarding wood! Great looking progress sir! Surprised you didnt noodle them in half to lift as before. Do you own a peavey/cant hook? Two guys wouldve been able to roll that log with one. Dont use mine that often but a great tool for sure.
I do have one but didn’t have it along. As I was cutting those logs where they were, I used the notch wedges to keep them off the ground. I had myself all set up to get through the 2 without issue. Wasn’t expecting the move..
i see you did some noodling. I didnt see your follow up post. I split some after the rain stopped late this afternoon. Hour and a half and i was soaked. Hoard on and keep the great pics coming.
Nice work, sir. Get it while you can, supply can dry up quick...maybe we both can get some cooler temps. Right before I went to bed today. And when I got up to come to work... didn't feel that hot inside.
Wow. Ick. It cooled off here due to a storm front that rolled through. It straight up poured on my way to cut tonight but I drove out of it. All I had was some spotty light drizzle. Temps weren’t horrible but the real feel was quite a bit higher. I think with your temps, I would hold off on doing any of it.
Not too bad early mornings, still feels a bit sticky even with the fan running. If you get a chance, check out the "Git'ter done down in Dixie" thread...our summer adventures are there...lol
Nice work! Yeah, cutting any wood in hot weather is no fun. Cutting heavy wood like oak is kinda torture. Btdt, but you do what you have to do.
Returned to Pa a little late this evening, but not too late to pick up the pieces already cut. Won’t get back at it till next week. Have a weekend trip planned on 2 wheels with my better half.
Nice that you cut extra so you can do that or grab a load in a pinch. How many more loads to get? Have fun and be safe this weekend. Gonna be hot again.
