    Grooved bark for one, red maple is pretty smooth or flaky, other is if you do have leaves, the edges of the leaves are smooth, very similar to sugar maple and in shape. Norway maple is not native I believe, more an ornamental or street tree, but I occasionally see them in the woods. Escapees !!

    I grew up spending the summer in Rocky Point. My parents have a house near the beach. Ive spent many days at the beaches in Wading River.

    i thought it looked like Norway myself. Even better as JDU said. The bark on Norway reminds me of ash.
