Couple months ago, my boss at the bike shop mentioned he needed to get a couple trees taken down. Some were standing dead, some too close to hitting house if they fell. I told him if he gets a tree service in, have them leave everything on the ground and I’d clean it all up. This Thursday he informed me they’re down and some of them are pretty big. So after work I followed him home. Holy WOW!! Many biggins down. I didn’t get to snap any pics before starting but here’s my two truck/trailer loads. Can’t wait to share a pic of what is waiting for me. Load 1 I swapped the 42” to the 24” and ran my ported 394 the most. It is beastly! The rest of these logs get larger in size from what’s pictured so I will noodle them in half before bucking. Some heavy stuff! Load 2 Through next week, I’ll be stopping to get a truck load at a time in the evenings. Hope to get a pic of logs laying. Nice straight long oak. This should push me well past 3 years. In 3 seasons I’ll be using 100% oaks. When it rains it pours. I have so much wood to get right now it’s crazy! Wish I could take a week or two off work and have at it. Wait, that kinda sounds like I have an obsession issue....
Looks like cords and cords of the best firewood there is! Do you have the room to stack it in your yard? You have the perfect setup to harvest it all!
Good score....couple months here before I want to be running the saws much. I do have to suffer the heat with the saw to help someone a bit more yet but none for the home front till probably Oct.
Yeah, I helped a neighbor out in late May early June. I'm done until it cools off. Granted I got all the wood from those 2 ash, but I had to clear of of of his lawn Nice score and more to come The Wood Wolverine .
Great score The Wood Wolverine . I know the feeling about when it rains it pours. You just scored all those trees from the storm too. Sounds like a case of "wood stress" to me. I hate when that happens. Wish i had the energy to cut a load every night. How close to home is it? How many cords do you think? Its not an obsession, we're wood hoarders and thats normal, right? BTW, did you get any poison ivy?
I will get a pic of these logs laying. It's a beautiful sight! I do have a processing area in my side yard under a maple tree for shade. It might have to grow a little. #noroundleftbehind I'm a big fan of the military A-10 jet. This must be what it's like to pull the trigger on it's gatlin gun! Brrrttttt. I have about 2 years worth of primarily Shagbark Hickory to use first. The future is bright (and warm)! lol This! Believe me, this is not the time I want to be hoarding. Last Oct I had a motorcycle off at the track. Leathers ripped at the knee and gave me a nice bit-o-rash. It put me out for all last fall/winter/spring so I didn't get to replenish the stacks to keep me @ 3yrs. Now all the sudden I have wood coming at me from all angles. What's a hoarder supposed to do? #sweatequity Shew-wee! It's raining cats and dogs right now. He's about 20 minutes from where I live so not bad. I'll be taking my truck to work daily and stopping by for a load. I have to make hay while the sun shines. Best part is it's in the shade as he's in the mountains with tree's everywhere. He has a bobcat too, so we can load the bucket or he will drive through the yard to park me within 5 yards of these logs. Cordage.. oh man. So I separated all the small stuff that doesn't need split and delivered it to my parents last night. I'll be able to guess what I give them by trailer load measurements. I didn't even get to lay eye's on the tree's they dropped in his back yard. He said they are big too. I'd put an early guess in at 7-8! That's just a wild stab. And yes, unfortunately. I have 4 pimple size spots on my left hand and one on my left wrist. I guess times change. I haven't touched the mulberry since. My neighbor isn't in any hurry for it to be gone and my boss had these oaks in his yard so I had to switch locations. From now on, I will wear long sleeves and gloves. I think it got me at every spot I had any skin abrasion. Funny thing is, there is only one spot that has itched me twice(for a small moment), the rest hasn't irritated me in the least. I'm using a special soap to scrub and keeping the Ivarest on it.
My hat is off to you lad! A tremendous score for sure. Hope the itches don't get too bad and hope the knee has healed nicely.
