Had some big storms roll in Thursday evening. The wind broke a big piece of a large red maple in the yard. The rest of the tree was leaning back toward the house and parking area, so I called my tree service friend and he pieced the rest of the tree down for me. There was a power line next to the tree as well. Yesterday was a long day of cleanup and I am still not done. I knew it was a big tree, but wow! Also made me realize how spoiled I am since I mostly cut standing dead which has a lower moisture content on average and weighs less by volume. This red maple is heavy. I have a lot of respect for you scroungers.

Hey Farmer, it appears it is a good thing you got the rest of that thing down! Hard to believe you noodled it though as that should split super easy. Enjoy the nice firewood.
Did you see that stump in the last picture? That is a 28" bar on that saw! The stump the tree guys left was a little high so I cut it down; I cut about 8-10" off, and then had to cut it in 5 pieces to get it in the truck. Anyway noodling is fun on occasion. Only thing the tree took out was half a big old boxwood.
Some nice looking wood for sure. Glad you did not have any other damage. That would have been a mess if it had hit your home.
Ya, those soft maples can hold lotsa water. Got yerself a good load of wood from the tree. Still find it interesting how much lighter red maple gets after some time in the stack compared to fresh cut living, 'specially during wet springtime.
