I’m about to buy a house with this furnace in the basement. I know the stove hasn’t been used for 10 to maybe 20 years . Is this worth using? I could not find any indication of who manufactured it. Looks to me like I need to connect the stove to the houses ducting , is that strait forward or will I need a pro ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dude! I think that is a Kuuma 1! If it is, it is the pre-cursor to the famous Kuuma VF100 and 200...worlds only EPA 2020 certified wood furnace as of right now. The new ones are better, but I hear these were pretty decent units too. You can call these guys and find out all about it I'm sure, family owned business in Tower MN, the phone is often answered by Dale the GM, or sometimes Daryl the inventor/owner. 1-800-358-2049 Wood Burning Furnaces & Sauna Stoves - Lamppa Manufacturing Oh, and welcome to FHC!
Kuuma would make sense. I live 30 miles from tower. The house was built in 1920 and I’ll be the 4th owner Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well you live in a cold area then...so a wood furnace makes good sense! I'm sure they can tell you what to look for on it to decide if it is still usable or not. Good luck on the house purchase!
Thanks guys, I emailed them the last two photos asking if it’s one of there’s . Is there a fan or anything other than pipe needed for the ducting into the house . Looks like someone removed the old ducky and caped it . Well , I’m just guessing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wow ! A gentleman from kuuma already got back to me. He believes it is a kuuma 1 but they are before his time there. He will share the photos with Daryl Lamppa tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Soo , assuming this is in fact a kuuma 1. What have I got here ? Should I start a new thread in the EPA stove section? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This is a pic of the Kuuma VF200 that I sold to comanche79p last year...look at the door, it looks almost identical...they have only ever made 3 models to my knowledge, the Kuuma 1, VF100, and VF200...and your pic is not the latter 2, so I'm saying its a K1. They will be able to help you for sure though!
Actually, it is in the right section already...and get to thinking about it, you can change the title yourself...its under "thread tools" at on the right above your 1st post...at least it is when using a laptop...maybe not on a phone?
Nothing but the initial e mail from Dale. I emailed again this eve, asking for any details. What are the forum’s thoughts on this stove? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good idea, he probably forgot...they are very busy and spread pretty thin these days. My personal opinion would be after a thorough inspection of the furnace and chimney, hook it back up if everything looks OK...looks like it just needs a pipe to the chimney, and another over to the furnace plenum. Did you ever figure out if it has a blower on it? Pretty sure they came with them, might want to ask them about that specifically.
Now that I'm looking at this set up again I hope you don't attach the stove to pipe going into the chimney.Looks like that's a gas water heater next to the chimney. If the pilot light goes out and there's gas floating around a fired up wood stove that could be curtains.
