D8828C57-01F6-47AB-870E-293E7AA7ED1B.jpeg hiked at new place today . Spotted this big wolf tree. Measured in at 180 inches circumference. Dead so no leaves. Probably bc of the age and development of the tree I really have no idea what kind of tree other than it’s likely oak of some sort. What do you think?

Yes, it would appear to have retired.

Missed this. Trying to catch up on all the threads/posts after being MIA for two days. Looks like it could be oak or sugar maple? Im guessing by the type of rot on the dead limb.

Using the tree age estimator that’s online it’s between 220 and 280 yrs old

    Blasphemy!
Just kidding. I have a 120 inch tape measure I carry in my backpack if I’m going full nerd with tree stuff while out with the dogs. My wife actually pointed it out to me in the distance. I went to check it out and then asked her to help me with the tape measure. The big trees always seem to have at least some poison ivy at the base of them. She gave me this response which was like “ oh boy I knew that was coming”.
