We usually have a 4 x 8 section full of kindling, during the shoulder season is when we use the most. I think this is the first time in 2 years we've added to it.
Looks good, great idea. We have a few trash cans for pallet board kindling and a small 5x10 shed for limb wood up to about 3"
I'll be bucking up some pine logs tomorrow from when we cleared for the new garage, I'll still have six more piles of logs left after I do one tomorrow. Since I didn't have a picture of the pile, I attached a photo of how I did some ash using the forks which I'll use tomorrow.
This pile of pine had a bunch of smaller tops in it but I did use the 4540 so I could get the pine in the air.
I finished what was left of the pine, I'll wait until this heat is gone before splitting it. Here are some pics, I have some rounds that need to be tossed on the pile but this trail will be open for winter. All the pine that I get c/s before the snow hits will be piled in a long row in a new area. I only have enough room for two years worth of pine stacked so once we burn this years shoulder season wood, I'll get our pine from the new area.
Thanks T.Jeff Veal , unless I do some stacking real early each day the firewood work will stop until this heat moves through. I have some chains that the rakers need lowering so I'll hand file those, I always have plenty of things to do that will keep me busy. Today we hit 81 which isn't that bad but I'm not sure what the dew point or humidity was.
It was the first time I made them, I thought they were very good. I'm not sure where the recipe is but I used one off the net.
Do you have a depth gauge for filing the rakers? I didn't and had a very grabby chain. It's gotten better since another sharpening. Temps got to 102° today here.
Yes I do, I used it this morning on the chain I lowered the rakers on. I've done that before but never hand filing the rakers, I did it on the grinder. The two chains I've been using on the pines are getting down close to the mark on the cutter, these were the two chains I used for felling and bucking all the ash this year. There was some dirt in the pines logs today (brushed most off) so I'll hand file them tomorrow too. Is all you cutting and splitting down for the summer?
This is some cherry and maple I split the first week of July so unless it's storming tomorrow, it will get stacked.
