Over the weekend my buddy and I took down this probably 75 ft tall black cherry that had fallen like this. I have to say this was the scariest thing I have ever sawed on before. I had a few beers once she came down. Also I had to take a small tree down with it, is this ash? Can anyone ID? Hope everyone had an awesome July 4th!! Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Didn’t think about hickory, I assume hickory makes a fine firewood? I’ve never worked with it before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bottom pic looks like hickory as do the leaves...pignut variety if im not mistaken. Excellent firewood...HEAVY when green. Higher btu's. Harder to hand split. Long time to dry, at least a couple years. My 4th was good, thanks! Hope yours was as well!
Thanks! I actually have a good amount of these trees, I may just harvest another to put towards the following year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
thats right...you cut to 12"? You have that "built in" kiln on your house! Split the hickory when fresh cut and should be easier. If bucked already keep one end on ground...damp end splits easier IME. That tree wouldve had my heart racing after the fall. Those can be logostically difficult. Nice work as its on the ground and all are well!
Yes perhaps I’ll load up the “kiln” with hickory once the oak has speed dried. I had my buddy watching while I cut, as soon as the tree moved the smallest bit he tapped my shoulder signaling me to run haha. That should give me quite a bit of cherry wood though, which is one of my favorite firewood’s. I love to burn it during holidays since the smell is so good Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cherry and hickory are both terrible wood to burn...... Hazardous even...... better let buZZsaw BRAD or myself put on our HAZMAT suit and remove it from said property ASAP...move it far away, GEORGIA can be the dumping grounds........ JK...both of those trees make great wood. Great score on both trees
That works for me...you need the Hickory for those cold shoulders..er..I mean nights you get sometimes...
4th of July + widow maker = explosives. Certainly looks like a scary one. Glad all worked well. Now anytime someone taps you on the shoulder your gonna jump a bit. LOL
That widowmaker would've had me waiting for the wind to do it's thing. I'm glad you got it down safely Ford101 , I wouldn't make a habit of cutting too many of those down. It is nice to meet you, and you got some nice pics there.
