I have it. Was part of the new package we got..
I just like watching sports "as it happens"..
    It's just me..
If I wanted to watch recordings, I would just watch the highlights on the news..
I do use it to record tv shows that I cannot watch at the time they are on,
Like I did the final of "The Son".. and "Yellowstone" last week,
as I was out for both of those..

You can't just drop an old HDD into a new puter with different Motherboard and peripherals.
The software for the new stuff is different from what your old computer had and it can be a real mess getting it all to work right again.

Builders want a fresh install on the OS... then it loads all the right software to run all the peripherals.

JUST bolt the old HDD into the cabinet, hook up a SATA cable to one of the extra sata ports and plug in a power cable from the Power supply and the old drive will show up in your list of drives.

YOU CAN retrieve all your old stuff and drop it in where you need it.

I always install a second drive and save everything I do not want to lose.

Once you have cleaned out all your stuff go in and format the old HDD and use it as a storage drive to store copies of all the stuff you do not want to lose...

The new solid state drives are sweet, as they are not sitting there spinning at 7200 RPM for years on end and then one day they go boom and crash.

    Or the motor dies....

You should be able to grab your email stuff and easily recreate your lists.

Losing a computer is certainly no fun....but having stuff backed up helps a bunch

There are other failure modes for the solid state drives.

Last weekend we were at Red Power Roundup in Bloomsburg, PA. about 1000 IH tractors, Cub Cadets, Scouts, Trucks and implements were on display. A great show! My son David and Grandson Landon were with us, along with several friends. Here is Landon completely tired out on tractor overload! no naps for this boy!

    Landon with a treat.jpg

the July 4th weekend was busy. took the RV to the Zagray Farm and worked on prepping the base for concrete for the rear of the new building. It was a lot of hot, dusty work! turned the shower on COLD each night and left a dirt ring in the base. Felt great to get cool and clean......Well then add in a couple of :coldone::coldone: and perhaps:drunk:. I think I have recovered 100 % from open heart surgery. I was to bed before nine each night dog tired - the wine prolly helped! :drunk:and the :grizz:

Here is the project. when this is poured this week I need to duplicate the work on the front side. There is also a 6 foot pad in front of both big doors, so one of those is prepped as well.

in this picture I am drilling for tie in rebar, and will run the plate compactor over it. All done!

Grandson Landon is helping me change Kathryn's tire Sunday morning.

And of course more tractor rides for Landon. He can now name most of them and tell me which one he wants to take out!

If your old HDD was the boot drive on a Windows 10 computer you CAN pop it in to a different computer and it will boot up. The caveat is as long as you have your activation tied to your Microsoft account it will activate w/o any issues. Have done this to a few computers I've upgraded recently. You can also clone it to the boot drive on the new computer as well, especially if your old drive was a spinning hard drive and the new one has a SSD (solid state drive). If not tied to a Microsoft account you would have to buy a new license. With Linux it doesn't care. You can take any Linux boot drive, put it in any computer and it should boot up fine as everything is in the kernel. Did that to one of my own systems recently.

    SORT OF...NOT REALLY

The drive also has all the needed software for the motherboard and other stuff too.

As I mentioned it is a nightmare that builders want no part of.

A clean fresh install of the OS on a fresh board with the various extras (Video card, sound card ..unless they are on the board) still takes the software.

The used HDD will likely not have he proper drivers for whats needed..

Hashing it together and making a MUT is a bad plan.

A fresh clean install is always better and prevents many glitches later down the road too.

That is exactly what I wanted them to do.

Seems like they could back up the email stuff (when they told me they couldn't/wouldn't) then they stashed the folder but didn't do anything with it, or tell me about it. I found it a little bit ago and imported it into Outlook, and now I'm good with that.

B, Like scajjr2 stated. the old win 10 os will likely boot(be it with lots of waiting and reboots likely). If you must have the data? I'd hash and bash it to get the data if there isn't any other way. But just to salvage and save is all. Then pop the new disk back in with the OG OS and then transfer the salvage data.

Most stuff will be visible with the old drive a sata slave or usb detachable.

Once you get your stuff salvaged, Please use this as a lesson and back your stuff up with at least a USB pen drive.

I had all my files backed up onto an external hard drive (not that they would use that - they made me buy another external hard drive so they could transfer the same exact chit over). I copy the files over once a month just to make sure I don't lose them.

The only exception was the last 6 months of emails and my contact/calendar stuff, and I already got that today. None of it was critical (any that was, was PDFed), just a PITA that I was going to have to rebuild it.

Seriously, it got built up into a much bigger deal than it was - it just cost me a lot of time to download all the dang software again and getting my computer talking with Comcast so I had Wi-Fi again..

I was always worried that I'd forget to do a complete back-up, at least weekly and lose everything, until I found out about the Time Machine program built in my Mac software. All I had to do was buy an inexpensive external Seagate Backup plus drive ($50), and set it up.....now it gets done every day automatically.

Windows 10 has the same kind of program built in too......

Well then you have the Back Back back Back button you were asking about. Just set each tuner to the chanels and use the right arrow button to see and choose what you want to bounce around to. :)

I agree on not watching sports recorded unless I absolutely have to. It already happened so............ Regular TV, I never watch live

Are you on a New Account where the Tivo is included? I am a 25+ year Metrocast/now Atlantic customer and they would not cut me a break-wanted about 45 bucks a month for the damm thing.

I turned in my old box, bought a Tivo Roamio OTA with lifetime subscription for 299 then converted it to a cable version Tivo Roamio with a simple 20 dollar Ebay purchase of a cable card socket. Now I pay 2 bucks a month for a cable card with Atlantic and they can kiss my azz.

One down area on the cable company Tivo is it doesnt have commercial skip (at least I understand it does not). Yours does have the 30-60-90 etc second jump but does it have have Skip mode on recorded shows?

The main reason the builders will not use or add any customer provided parts and such is they do not want the warranty liability issue.

These issues and other is why I build all my own stuff and bolt together what I like
