Canoe "awning"

My kids found this fiberglass canoe in the river that's my back line about 4-5 years ago. It was a junker but I left it on the bank by our dock since they drug it home. I got tired of looking at it and we have 2 other canoe's so I put it to use.

First I slabbed off about 8" one side.

then screwed a 2x4 to the flat bottom


hauled it back down the the river and much to my surprise it was a good cut and I screwed it to the "kitchen" at our camp.


I couldn't deal with that 70's yellow so it got a coat of Hunter Green. A much more mellow and traditional color for a canoe.



No, it's not a real kitchen but that's what we call it. Just storage for cooking stuff and a countertop that provided just enough cover. The canoe add's a little bit more cover not that I've ever seen the cabinets wet from rain.
Cooked some dogs over wood for lunch on the fire pit.

Thanks, but it's not an original idea to me, there's a canoe over a triple window on a building 5-6 miles away from me. I thought it was clever as well.

I was thinking the same thing. It looked at first glance like a Native American Eagle head.

 

I was cleaning up around my Dad's place and he had 2 of them. They were part of something, I think a pergola type thing that they took down. I scarfed them up and new I'd have to find just the right place for them. The canoe was it for me. This is the one on the other side.
They are just decorative, the 2x4 holds the canoe up.

 

Love the whole idea of a "Camp Kitchen" and the canoe is a perfect finishing touch especially for a Maine camp! Great addition!
