Welcome aboard! Glad to have a "Tassie" (A World Apart, Not A World Away) burning wood on the site. Looking forward to the pics.
Its all eyeball here. 2 square metres or half cordish perhaps? People sell it usually by uteload and everyone has different utes etc some with big sides etc. Usually small time sellers just load their utes with a price attached and the customer decides if its a deal or not. Bid outfits go over the weighbridges or have other methods to be as close to the specified weight as advertised.
Copy and paste works on pictures also. Would adding air inlet holes low on the containers allow more air flow thru the wood? Gary
Welcome aboard Tas So , you want to try and dry your wood inside those containers in the pic is that right ? What is a whirly bird ? Like an attic vent ?
Ive taken them off for the time being, there are holes 12 inch in diameter on top of the containers at the moment. Its a thing that sits on top of a roof and spins to get rid of the warm air. Maybe its called a turbine where you are from.
That's what I thought they were With enough of those on top venting the moisture out ,that might actually dry your wood pretty fast. Also you could set up solar powered fans If set up like a regular kiln you could dry wood in a couple of weeks , and charge other people to dry their wood
Only the 1 whirly bird was my concern as well as potential fire or something else I may be overlooking. 1 of the 3 containers has a back door which can be loaded/unloaded from each end for rotation of supplies. If for example this is doable and dries the wood in 6 months would you leave it in there or re-stack it outside? I need roughly double the amount you see in the pic for a 6 year supply. I don't want to go into business I just want to be able to have say 20 years of supply and call it a day.
Welcome tas! Can you leave the doors open on those containers in the dry spells? If so with your wirlygigs I bet it'll dry well.
Yeah just open them up. 1 also has double doors at the back. This one actually was going to be for chickens and ducks with a separator in the middle so they both have their own indoor area. But im working on the long term wood supply first and then possibly going ahead with this in 5 years.
Looks great. I bet those containers work really well in the sun as passive kilns. Elevated heat dries wood incredibly fast.
Hello Tas… welcome. I'm sure that I'm not the only one interested in your world in Tasmania. Great to have you here…
Very interested to see this progress. Welcome aboard and I think the next Gig should be at Tasmaniac's off grid spot!!
Yep, you're not the only one. I wonder what type of wood they have there, how the winters are, and what equipment is used.
A true firewood hoarder. Watch out Dennis, the Tasman is gainin' on ya'. Hey Tamaniac, welcome to the FHC. Now that you've got the pic thing figured out, keep 'em coming. Our motto......"Pics, or it didn't happen". Well, it's a kind of informal motto, but still............
