    Yeah, its just a hollow dead log. I had 6-7 out of this red oak. This is the last and smallest one. I have a dead standing white oak that is bigger than the pit and hollow. It will be next.

    Nice...Can you just noodle that white oak and use the bits in the stove? They would be useful for lighting off a small amount of coals come morning.

    Absolutely. But I have more trees than I can burn before they rot. So, I save these for fire pit shows:campfire:

    A couple years back brother removed a large hollow lower limb from the big old recently dead Silver Maple in his front yard.Tossed that in the fire ring when they were camping at a State Park.Made quite a fireworks show.I have a pic of it somewhere on here..

    Good idea.
    Great for a night time fire
    Burned out some similar birch stumps when clear for the yard & garden.
    Fun with fire :)
