I had the same issue on my Bronco. Its dual battery because of the Powerstroke, and I fought a failing OE neg cable for a few years on one of the batteries. Finally replaced it with ome of those POS terminals that clamps the cable for a bit, but it was worse than the failed OE piece. I finally bought Mil Spec battery terminals and took a trip to my office and repaired my cables there. Crimped the cable ends on, and it's been flawless since.

I did get a death wobble so bad a few weeks ago that it loosened one of my connections somewhere. Need to track that down before it strands me.

Working on little projects today. I wanted to change a fitting on the outboard gas line. I cut a few inches off the end of the hose. This has sat around for a few years and I got as much of the old gas out as I could.

Lots of waxy build-up in that small section of hose. I'll just change it out.

Yard work was done yesterday in the humidity and I'm still sore from moving storage items.

Overcast morning but I think it will clear off. We are all going to the beach today. Two hour gravel road drive and 45 mins hiking and we will end up on a popular west coast beach facing Japan. Our kids have spent a lot of time there surf kayaking over the years. We haven't been back for over thirty years. The dogs will love it.

It is. It was like this from the factory. 41 years now, as it's a 1978 model. Of course I watch it, and I put dielectric grease on it.

Edit, yeah, I should probably replace the entire cable set. Just based on the years...

Lightning hit close to me three times, and the furthest one away was about 50 ft. One hit a metal sign as I was parking my car and that was about 5 ft away. The last one hit the satellite dish outside our bedroom, while I was in it. A little too close for comfort on all three occasions. And yes, they all scared the crap out of me too.

Wasn't expecting to be online today but am here anyway for a short time. It is a beautiful day here; fantastic! The humidity and dewpoints are down so the air is really nice. However, we do expect to have to turn the air conditioner on later this week as high 80's and humid conditions are forecast. Yuck.

But today is our anniversary and the weather is cooperating nicely!

Last evening we were without power for 2 1/2 hours. Not sure why but they got it back on. Just a local area that went out. Our generator handled it nicely so was not even an inconvenience to us.

Replaced a sump pump at my mother in law's house. Of course the parts I got didn't work and it was after 10 pm last night so I had to go back this morning. The check valve that was for 1.25 or 1.5 inch pipe has a hole in the threads . I connected it to 1.35" pipe so there was the 1.5" threads above it exposed where the hole was. So that when it cut on water squirted out of the hole?? Not sure how that works but it doesn't work when you use the smaller threads there is a hole in the fitting? Plumbers do y'all know what I am talking about or what this is for?

    Here it is done. IMG_20190630_111018206.jpg

People ask me man you got your generator out or say I didn't even try. I was like when my power goes out my genney goes on. What's the point to have it if you don't use it. Usually it's several hours out. A few times ago it was out like 15 hours. I used just under 5 gallons I think.

I'm not going to sit in the heat of a hot humid 80+ degree house in the dark without a fan. I have a generator? I saved a Boston butt that we were cooking that would of been lost had we not had the generator. It was slow cooking in the oven when power went out. I moved it to a crock pot when I came home and started the generator.

Mwalsh9152 .. get that tree for firewood. In my experience yes it's happened to me, a tree hit by lightning dries almost instantly. The water vapor goes to steam and blows the bark off. And they're ready for the stove really fast it's a great way to get dry wood if you need it!!

My grandmother always said a tree struck by lightning wouldn't burn worth anything. She had a lot of funny old school wives tales. Like you had to cut wood on "the right of the moon" it was something that you had to cut on the full moon cause the sap would fall or something like that.

I'm sure there are more, I just don't remember them all right now. She has been dead around 10 years and was in her late 80s when she passed.

I was lucky to be able to live with her for a little over a year after I graduated college. That was a few years before she "took sick with the cancer" and finially succumbed to the illness. She was out and moving around in her garden and around the house up untill a few weeks before she passed.

That reminds me of the time we were microwaving green beans to go along with dinner while a lightning strike hit our house. The beans were in the microwave for only a minute, then bam. Fried microwave, and the beans were essentially dehydrated. Crazy stuff.
