Yeah, I don't do any intensive stuff, so it should be fine. Layers of dust doesn't describe what was in there - almost like the hard pack of crumbled pellets that had gotten wet. I just blew it out as a lark, no harm no foul if it didn't work.

I blow out the computer fans every 6 months (when you have pets, you got to), but never knew about the fan on the graphics card. It will be on the list for cleaning from now on.

Having a computer desk top with the box sitting down under the desk turns the computer into a virtual VACUUM CLEANER.

Since the advent and rise of the wireless peripherals (Keyboard/mice) it has become a lot easier to get the computer in a place that keeps them much cleaner.

DOG, CAT......????? HAIR will find it's way into the power supply, CPU fan, GPU (Video card) anything with a fan..

I built my P5 as a wall mount and that really saved on desk space, plus being an open case its easy to see whats shaking and see the dust.

Running the two pellet stoves generates a lot of really fine gray dust, and it gets into/on everything.

Also, living in the country with a dusty road in the summer time, plus the horse paddocks close by we get dust from all of it.

It's amazing how hot some of the components in the computer get...

Running the CPU on a modern computer without a cooler..."Water or air" will see the CPU fail quickly.

Liquid cooling is the ticket in any HOT ROD computer.

My P5 has a custom cooler setup....albeit not connected yet... (NO ROUND TUIT)

Sadly once a component has suffered "Heat sickness" it may recover, but it has been compromised and it's ability to deliver is in question..

At least you can swap in a new one pretty cheap if need be...

Looks like our late June fire season is coming to a close.

    Much warmer weather coming
I am not at all sad to see the cooler weather we have had.

Not a fan of hot weather...not even

    Yessss indeed.

I rarely buy new computer anything. This said, I bought the Thermaltake Core P5 open case in 2013 as an open box  (Saved a bunch of $$$) and installed the current hardware in it.
The case did not have a 5-1/4 rack...just a flimsy excuse for a HDD hanger.
Salvaged the needed rack from an old garage sale junker and built my own mountings.

So we have a dual hard drive hot rack and dual DVD drives.. then added extra aluminum framing to mount a nice radiator with dual fans..... Then had to make spacers for the 4 rods that hold the plexi cover sheet.. (New gear made things a bit too tight to get the cover on)

The gamer kids that have to have the fastest toys in town sell off their 2 year old goodies cheap. (If they wait that long)

My current machine is a Republic of Gamer's "Maximus Extreme" that's a few years old now.
Was new in 2011 and running an Intel QX9770 intel CPU
Scared up the HIS HD 6870 graphics card from a fella on Craig's list for about 1/3 of new $$$

I don't game, so these toys work fine.

If it dies, toss it and bolt in newer stuff....

Probably one of these days I will start scaring up all the needed goodies to build a better one.
Likely scatter it out on the dinning room table and set it up as loose parts and get it flying, then after it works right swap it into the P5 case..

Same here, I built my current desktop back around 2011 and haven't had the need to update anything. MB and processor are AMD related (AM3+ and Quad Core Athlon)-at the time I was hoping AMD would come out with another Intel killer like in the 90's but that didnt happen so my AM3+ MB purchase never utilized the newer AMD processors beyond Athlon as I never felt the need for mediocre increases.

Since I havnt gamed in 10 years is really doesnt matter anyway-my gaming was fighter jet games and that genre has gone away. If anything fails, I will update that item but not with cutting edge as there isnt a need.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum. Do game (a couple different golf games, racing games like Assetto Corsa, Project Cars 2, Forza) and a few months ago thanks to a great Newegg special I upgraded my only 9 month old i7-8700k/GTX 1080Ti to a i9-9900k/RTX2080Ti. Both the cpu & RTX card are liquid cooled. Dual 32 inch 4K monitors. Sold the 1080Ti (also a liquid cooled model) for $600 to offset the 2080ti cost some, put the 8700k setup with a gtx1080 I had into our master bedroom system and sold the Z170 board/i7-6700k/16Gb ram & a GTX1070 to a kid at work for $450.

Shouldn't have to upgrade for a few years. Love gaming at 4K, eye candy in 2019 is amazing.

hare to read that, but I still get the shots. I don't notice any reaction or side effects so I am lucky that way. Had too many acquaintances pass on from the flu. Best way for us to avoid the flu is to become hermits when the flu is really active. that includes keeping your distance from school age children. parents will send their infected kids to school because they can't miss work.

Well Larry I don't go in for get together stuff but the boss is forever doing the quilt club crap during the non summer time so with three quilt clubs plus area meetings etc. I get exposed to everything going and then there are the grand children in 3 different schools two different systems coupled with a school teacher child I can't become a hermit as much as I would like.

Had a tree rat hanging from the bird feeder this afternoon. Fleeting thought of using the pellet gun but just yelled at it and it took off. Usually I just open the door and let the dog chase it into the woods and up a tree-funny chit as the tree rat gets super pizzed

I mowed my yard this morning, vacuumed, several loads of laundry and then headed outside to play in the sprinkling skies. My "play" was starting to fill up the new roadside garden with shrubs and perennials. Not done since I'm still on the lookout for more plants that I want in there, as opposed to the meager collection at Agway and BBS's.

Butterfly bush all alone at the left end of the garden

The tree is a laceleaf maple. There are 3 peonies and 2 guarra in the picture (which probably won't winter over, but I liked the flowers). In the front of the first picture you can also see a lone sedum. For now they are side-dressed with compost until I get everything done to my liking. Then they will be topped with mulch (which will cover the inside row of rocks). garden from side - after compost.jpg

garden from front - after compost.jpg

The sprinkles were playing hide and seek all day, with a few rumbles of thunder thrown in but about 4, about the time I had cleaned up from planting, the air became drier and the wind kicked up so I went and mowed the neighbor's yard. After a shower andone more load of laundry, I went out for an ice cream dinner.

Just started sprinkling again but supposed to dry out overnight then the heat will set in again.
