A 21" push one with a Honda engine almost exactly what I had. I think it will turn out cheaper than buying a mower deck, removing the engine, having it repaired, and reinstalling it. It will be easier also. Cut down the box sides, unfold the handle, set the height, add 10W30 detergent oil, load up the gas tank, and go. I don't know if the the old engine will fit on the new mower but if the bolt up holes are the same I may spring for repairing the old engine as a spare I doubt if much is wrong with it. Just don't feel like fiddling with it right now. Those Honda engines are just about bullet proof.

I feel so much better this morning. 4 days to get rid of jet lag. Last night was my first good night of sleep since flying to France on Friday night. I'm even hungry this morning.

Work put me in France but I did get last Sunday to see Paris, the Catacombs, Eiffel tower, Arch de Triumph etc. First time to France and the second time in 30 years that I have used my 6 years of middle school/high school French after a trip to Quebec a long time ago.

Going to Iceland for 2 nights on the way home, no work there.

Ha… you've obviously never seen Toro Proline mowers do their thing… :p Mowed those fields for 13 years with em, including, every rock, hole, etc… The bigger mower made light work of it so I mowed the last few years with just that one. With the chute guards off, the mower would throw the hay 10-15' to the side. While it was a very long ride in the truck, 4 six hour days, to mow all the fields, air conditioning, a comfortable ride and the radio, made it a pretty unique way to keep the fields knocked down, compared to a tractor. I could cry looking at what the owners of the farm have done since 2007… nothing. Alders are taking over along with lots of other brush. Makes me sick… but, that's the way these things go.

The new owners may be planing on cutting the old place up into house lots at some point. That is what happened to this old farmstead.

There are rock boundary fences in the area that go on for a long distances and the mess has grown up on both sides of the fence line. There are several formally large lots around here that have been split up slowly over the last 25 years or so. I suspect that when Shaw Brothers finishes digging up the former Libby Farm it will be split up. There are several currently active "subdivisions" in the works that took large chunks of woodlands out of being wood lots.

Finally got the first mowing done today after changing the hydraulic oil and engine oil… and filters. 50 feet across the lawn and smoke was rolling out from under the hood… :hair: … some choice words might have been muttered… I left the oil fill cap off of the valve cover… the engine needed a good oil bath anyway… Found the cap (whew) and I headed off again straight into a rock that "grew" from last year… :headbang: … a few more choice words may have slipped out then too… told Mech, looks as tho the year's starting out normal… :D

Finishing up another job with my brother today. Always good to work with any of my brothers.

LOFL! Hey, you sound a lot like me when I'm working. Must of learned the same language.

As my father in law would say. "Ya, we know each other. We went to different schools together."

My snow blower and lawn mower are both Honda engines. My original, approx 18-19 year old Honda snow blower is still doing backup duty at my neighbors. Best small engine, IMHO. Not to mention the variable hydraulic drive on these units.

I fairly certain that it is likely something very simple and even though I've used the mower since 1986 I just don't feel like fooling with it because it still needs a new deck. Hopefully the hole pattern will match between the two mowers, then I'll likely pay to have it fixed or fool with it myself. Meanwhile the new unit will be here tomorrow and today I got enough 10W30 to fill it and do an oil change. I also got a pile of things on my list at Lowe’s so I can continue on with the to do list. Today I dug in the dirt (will be doing this a bit each day for the next month when I can), I also got the first of 5 compost bins capped for planting (moved dirt) and three of the fruit trees all fertilized (slow release fertilizer spikes).

Good work Smokey. I hope to work around the house all this coming weekend. Tilling the garden, mowing the lawn, weed eating and getting started on splitting some wood.

Today's dilemma is to figure out what to do in Iceland tomorrow. The plan was to go there tomorrow, meet a friend for some beer drinking in Reykjavik tomorrow night and then continue home on Saturday. But the Iceland air pilots are striking tomorrow so it is go there today or not at all. Not a bad problem to have at any rate. I get to skip out on a day of work and let work fly me to Iceland. I'll just have to be a tourist for a day and see a geyser or go on a whale watch boat. Partying in Reykjavik is a blast. Last (and first) time for me was 10 years ago.

I don't feel like a true firewood hoarder because I haven't been able to get at least two years ahead on the wood supply. I have almost 2 cord left for some DHW supply burning and to get started with in September. Then I have at least 10 cord blocked up but not split. Oh well. I'm certainly not going in the woods to cut again until it gets cold. The ticks are out in force now. Dogs coming back home with them, after they dig under the fence and get out of the yard. :mad:Time to stop that. Suggestions?
