I just ran out for an errand and noticed this turkey cooker on the curb/trash area where people put out their stuff down here, so I stopped as I usually do when something catches my eye... So this cooker, "other than having some surface rust on it was in fine shape with the exception of the burner being very loose. After close examination I seen the through bolt was snapped off, stripped and the burner was flopping around. So, after a careful drilling and a new/thicker bolt it was good as new! Works like a dream now and ironically fits a #12 cast frying pan "Perfectly"! I will be bringing this on my next camping excursion
I bought and use the same one for brewing beer. They are pretty simple really. Lots of heat and noise!
That's a score! 2 to 1 says the person that threw it away doesn't own a drill.Hey, their loss your gain!
Yes, same thing. Bass pro and a few others advertize them a turkey cookers. The person kept the pot, I'm sure. I looked it up, it was about $40.00 new so a half hour of work and a new bolt worked out fine!
I actually bought the "fried turkey" kit cooker from Bass pro a few years back. We use "fresh turkeys". Don't need an explosion or massive fire! To many videos on youtube of that!
The pot that comes with these is very thin aluminum that oxidizes black with heat. Then if you stir in it enough you can actually wear through the pot and spring a leak. So no big loss on the missing pot. A proper stainless 5 to 10 gallon pot costs much more than the whole turkey frier kit.
To cook my Lobsters and crabs, about 35 years ago I made a "stainless" pot from a 1/4 barrel beer keg! Used a plasma cutter to cut the top off, inside the handle area and sanded the edges smooth. Instant pot with handles! I do have a bigger burner for that, a camp chef with two burners.
Nice score Dave. That's how I made my beer brewing kettle years ago. Now it's against the law to keep the keg when its empty.
