Daughter had some oak's cut down in her back yard this past week. So, I went over o help, ended up straining my achilies tendon, not good, it's not to bad today. Here's what it look's like now. The ''target'' was cut by me for our 9 yr old grandson, he painted it, then, decided to move it. He's pretty independent, so, i turned around to see where he was and he was standing there with a funny look on his face. Then i realized he had hurt himself, the ''target'' got away from him and scraped his shin, and just above his ankle had skinned that part about the size of a 50 cent piece. He never cried, but, he wanted to, i felt bad for him, took care of it and put some medicine on it and some ice to keep the swelling down, Then we went in and watched some saved "Mountain Men'' shows, he was doing pretty good when his mom came to our place to pick him up. Boy, i still feel bad that he got hurt, but, i told him, he should have asked me to help him with it. That ''target'' probably weights 30 lbs maybe more, its about 2.5'' thick and goes to about 3'' + on the other side of it. Its going to take some time to get it all moved out of the back yard. I'll be taking the splitter over this week, and getting on it. Yes i'll keep the grandson out of the way, he's a good kid, always wanting to help, and he's good help, but, this time he got in a little over his head, and didn't realize how heavy that piece of wood was. Wish it would have been me that got hurt instead of him. The one block cut with the rounded top is going to be my new chopping block, if i can get it loaded in the pickup or a low trailer, its a heavy sucker!!! I'd like to have the big one with the paint can in front of it for the back yard just because, its such a nice big old piece of wood. I'll get it there one way or another. Measured that butt cut tonight 28'' at the widest part. Almost forgot to add, i used the new Echo CS590, with a 20'' bar, on this tree when i started blocking it up, getting it broken in a little at a time. I"m really liking this saw. I'll ''attack''the big one this monday.

I'll take some of it, one of her friends got some for his mom, i had cut it small for her, he didn't have to split that much of it. He also got her a 12'' tall by 18'' wide kindling block, so she can split her kindling if she wants to. I did get the little block for myself tonight. I'll be going to her house with my splitter on Monday to start splitting it up and finish cutting rounds off it as well. My heel's feeling better, thank you. But, no cutting brush on steep side hills this coming week for my friend, going to rest it and take it nice and slow, try to get it so i can walk more comfortably on it i hope. The very back of my heel is still pretty tender, that's where i actually felt if Pull that day. It almost felt like when you pull almost warm taffy candy. I felt it start to go, and didn't really dig my foot in to push harder to get to the place i was going with that big block of oak on my shoulder.
Nice job. Don’t worry about the youngin too much. They’re supposed to get banged up. It’s a sign of a healthy upbringing. Too many kids these days never even see the sunlight. Now us older folks don’t just buff out as fast as we used to. Watch yourself there. Gotta know, what’s the target for?
Your right, but, i remember what i used to do, and how much i cost my folks for stitches, broken collar bone's, broken wrists, etc, that's the bad part, lol. He's all boy for sure, and he's a good worker for a 9 yr old, he'll jump right in and help you no matter what. The target, well he said he needed one for his sling shot. So, i cut that one for him, ''we'' know its not a good sling shot target, but, it was his idea.
Well watch out for ricochets or he may get a rock between the eyes. Angle it back steeply and he should be ok.
Your right, actually i'm not going to let him use it for a sling shot target, i had him make it to take his mind off his injury. It worked!
