I was told on another site that the morel will be hollow, thanks Boogeyman . Do you dry these out first and what's the best way to cook them?

No need to dry them, all that I've done with them is soak them in salt water overnight and fry them in egg wash.

They're usually only around in April around here, a short window of a couple weeks and they are gone until next year. Did you just find this one or is it an older picture?

I was just reading that they are found around certain trees, this one is next to the propane tank.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I get many pheasant back shrooms on certain stumps.

Chazsbetterhalf isn't a shrooms fan, and I'm not sure how to cook them properly.

    Any advice?

That's a white morel, like mentioned. They are hollow. Usually come out a week or 2 after the blacks pop up here. Some whites are huge. I've seen them 4" in diameter and 10" tall. On my place, we find mostly blacks. The longer and wetter the winter, the better the take.

Soak them in saltwater overnight to bring out the bugs. I dry them for a day to get some water out of them. Cut them in half. Maybe smaller pieces for the bigger whites. Fry them in butter with salt

I hopefully will have some in a couple weeks! They're finding some small greys about 2 hours south of me!
