Went after work to get started on a decent size Silver Maple a buddy had taken down. Asked the tree guy to leave it long if he could. Ran the ported 044, one tank & one trailer. Was good cutting. Couple more loads there I think. Got just about a cord I think & maybe about 1 1/2 left.
great looking work and decent tree amateur cutter . Having an assortment of saws, how do you decide on which to use? Im only running my two Stihl's.
Mostly by bar length needed. The 026's wear 16" the 362 18" the ported 036 20" the ported 044 24" semi chisel chain (it's the deck/landing saw) the 046 28" the 064 32" & the 660 36". I always carry one small saw, either the 192t, 011 avt, or the old 020 avt. those wear 16" narrow kerf chain for limbing & marking. Reading this, I realize how utterly ridiculous this sounds, but I'm kinda ocd so I like being able to have a saw for every purpose. I carry 4 saws in my truck when I go cutting. If I dull a chain I'll just switch saws sometimes. They all need to get run ya know.I may have a problem.
Actually it makes perfect sense. Bigger log, bigger bar, bigger saw. Personally, i think you should get an 880 with a 48" bar, just sayin' ! You can never have too many saws! Believe it or not, up until February of last year, i had never run a saw with a bar longer than 16"!!!
Trust me, I've thought about it LOL. Just not enough big stuff to run that saw in around here though. I've run 880's & they're only good when you need them, otherwise they'll kick the crap out of ya pretty quick. I want an 090 someday just to have one, but they're $$$$$$$$.
I'm gonna wait for Armbru84 to buy one first & give it a test drive. He's got a way of getting all the cool toys before anyone else. Ahem, Cole, hint , hint.
Always nice to have some silver maple around. I put the saws away for summer but we haven't had much summer here yet. I could have had a fire in the stove on Thursday night.
Yea, I'm not complaining about the temps for sure, but the rain could stop anytime. I tend to get a fair amount of tree work in the Summer, so this isn't bad.
I appreciate not running the electric bill up with the a.c. but the 30,000 gallons of water next to the house is not getting warm or used yet. Just feeding it chlorine and looking at it. Yes we have rain, rain and more rain.
Might better stock it with fish this summer from what they're saying. Pool's are a lot of work, especially when no one can enjoy them.
It's really not much work as long as you take a little time and stay ahead of any issues. Just like maintaining anything else, but it is easier yet if it is getting stirred up with use.

Not even close. The fence row jobs are off till fall. I gotta tell ya, cutting these yard trees is a real pita too. Knots metal & twisted grain, oh well, it's gotta get done. For sure! Almost as good as your "christmas tree" last year Dennis.
Another load today, not quite a full trailer, but the weather started looking worse. Got John a good full trailer too. One good load left.
amateur cutter how are the totes working out? Don't remember if you had many to unload through the winter or not. That is the tough part of using them; getting the wood out.
Pretty well, I use my pickaroon to grab the bottom couple layers when burning. Worst part is stacking in the bottom to get the most in them. I like being able to move a lot of wood quickly with the forks. I've got 10 full totes right near the boiler, about 2.5 cord, & another 4 cord in stacks next to the boiler, all dry & ready, that's really nice.
