I have heard lightening struck trees can be hard to cut. Not sure how true it is.

Wasn't there Heat but sounds the same as a big Christmas tree got nailed across the lake at the cottage and it was down when we got there. Had a hard time wondering why the forest didn't light up?

I've heard that since lightning is hot it only takes a couple weeks to dry an oak.:makeitrain"

Reason there harder to cut is because there dryer.
Anyone know how to deal with a 84 foot oak tree burning at 13 ft after lighting strike. And the mystery of the top burning .
It was in middle of a 6 acer oak Forest it was a miracle it didn't get hung up when they cut it down .
Don't forget there was 150 years of rotten leaves forest floor . You can take handful of that black dirt under the oaks and it will burn in the boiler . To give you Idea when it was standing burning the Sparks were starting leaves on fire and they were wet . I was just dumping pails water where Sparks were landing from it spraying out at 13 feet. out of tree.
Till fire department showed up. Pails dumped inside burning crack just flash steamed . Slowed it down maybe a little . But I was running out ideas all I could do is hold at Bay till fire department showed up. Crazy stuff .

That's a once in a lifetime experience, let's hope! Good for you, keeping your head and acting quickly before the firemen came. Save some of that toasted wood to show your grandkids when you tell the story!

If still somewhat solid, a nice short round of char would be good to save, as it has its own story.

Not that often that a tree will burn after being struck by lightning but it certainly does happen. It's been a few years now since we've had one get hit here and I hope it will be many more before it happens again. The last time a tree got hit by the house it threw bark up to about 100' from the tree but no fire. But that tree did turn into firewood and is ashes now.
