They got a bit of encouragement
    :saw:

BIL called @ 8:00AM and said he'd be up to be my spotter while I made some trees fall.
    :)

For safety sake, I prefer an extra pair of eyes, and someone who can help if something goes wrong.
    :hair:

Tackled a leaner that is near his tree stand, it's been bothering me for a few years now. I tried three times to notch it, but it was hung up solid in a maple, so I dropped the support tree.

Not my preference, but it got the job done, and safely.

Then went to the gas line in search of some "victims".. found a couple nice maples, and dropped two smaller trees that were in the way.

BIL believes this one to be Beech (small one on the right)..

All the maples are same species
    The leaner was an ash.

I didn't get a pic of the leaner before I dropped it

But it looks like this now..

Always an enjoyable day when the wood hits the ground and not your head or foot. Good job!!

Fully agree, I even did pretty well on accuracy today.

    Left to right, HH,maple,maple,beech.

I dropped the smalls first, then the maples, without tangling them up

    Not far at all

Still a few cartloads to bring down yet.

Was gonna mention that on the other post concerning leaners. I’ve created much fewer leaners since I found out what those racing stripes are for on the chainsaws. :)

The Poulan doesn't have an Alignment stripe, but I'm used to that saw.

Really got me thinking after I wrote that and you nailed it. Experience.
I was 48 years old before I started felling trees. My dad was always the saw guy and I got the job of loading and unloading. So yeah after he passed I sort of had to teach myself quick. Wasn’t always pretty LOL

I know that feeling. There's not many a day that goes by that I don't think about my parents.

I lost a teacher and a friend. It wasn't always friendly between us, but certain issues were resolved, and we became very close.
    :)

I know my dad would have a lot of fun with the tractor.
    :tractor:

    That'd be a hoot.

Got back on the hill for a couple of hours with BIL this morning.

Finished up the first maple and have that and all of the ash down off the hill now.

    IMG_20190615_134810087.jpg

    Ash by the splitter.

    IMG_20190615_134817490.jpg

    Maple off to the side.

BIL did a bunch of limbing, and I bucked the small beech and the hop hornbeam, and got started on one of the other maples.

    IMG_20190615_133426773.jpg

Will tackle the rest as the weather allows.

    Currently raining again
    :hair:

Will need to drop a few more ash for next year's wood, as the maple, beech,HH are gonna sit for a couple of years.

BIL has taken about a face cord for his firepit wood so far.

We're bringing down more than he's taking, so it's all good by me.

By the end of summer I think he wants to have at least a cord stashed at his place. I'm sure we can accommodate that, and more.

Oh, he also pointed out this damaged ash..
    IMG_20190615_134043662.jpg

The base seems solid enough for felling, but it has quite a dog-leg to it up high.
    :loco:

Gonna be an interesting one to drop for sure.
    :picard:

Hope everyone is having a great and safe day.
    :)

Great looking work Chaz ! The rain is getting very tiresome for sure. Any chance of getting a rope/cable on that Ash for safety's sake?

    I think so.

I have a limited window to drop it in so as to make sure it doesn't get hung up.

A well placed rope will make that window a lot "bigger". The few minutes of rigging can save a lot of misery on a hung tree.

    A big Amen to that.

One of these days I really need to invest in some good rope as well.

What I have now is nylon, it's doing what I need, but it's already starting to fray.

Certainly don't need it to give out at an extremely inopportune time.
