Looks like a beautiful day out in the woods. What’s your technique for taking down a leaner like when it’s propped up by another tree? I have a big pine like that I have looking at for a year.
Technique......good question. First I will pull the tree down to the left with my truck. I will walk around it a few times and draw the forces out in my head. The right leaner will likely be pushing against the stump directly down the trunk of the leaner into the standing stump. I have to walk it to verify. If I can throw a chain over the leaner I will try to pop it loose. If a no go, I will drop the stump at a 45 degree angle to the direction the leaner is pushing it. Nice strong hinge and slow careful cuts. No easy answer. Physics and trying your best to plot out the force from the weight and use that to your advantage.
Agreed. Me personally I like the ones that lean a lot. Easier IMO to read their minds. The ones that are barely leaning are harder for me to judge what dastardly plans they have in store. I have a few totally dead pines like roadside on my moms property. A small time tree guy walked away from the job. Ones a little scary. Get that one down and the rest should be fine.

When one cuts in the woods, he is bound to get leaners. Yes, it is best if they can be pulled down but you can't always do that or sometimes you even have to cut the tree before you can pull it. I hate to give much advice because it can be so tricky so for those without experience it is best to have someone around that has had some and are careful.
