Wow, interesting history behind that tree. We have some really amazing old Oak trees around here. My parents have a bunch that I have been told are at least over 150 years old in their neighborhood. Sadly it seems like they are dying out faster than they can re-grow.

I wouldn’t want any parts of a tree that big even with the equipment I have. It just takes too long compared to smaller stuff.
I agree. I was bucking some Norway maple at a friends this afternoon (the town finally cut it down in front of his house) and the trunk is way to gnarly to split even with hydro. I noodled the rounds into quarters just to move them off the road for him. They'll still need further noodling for fireplace size. The 30"+ trunk (he called it a carcass)! is still there. Dunno if ill even bother? Guess ive gotten spoiled by the nice knot free wood i score! Knot free is for me!
