how is he going to get wood in that? Oh thats right car hoarder, i forgot! Have you ever gone that fast to get to a score?
Well i ended up taking a heaping truck full of it. My mini honey hole was on the same property, so every time i went there id pick some of the "nicer" splits out and toss into a mound. Gave the load to my landlord as he lets me store wood in his yard. the 2x4's on my ladder racks were a scrounge from the same location. Weathered, but very usable.
Nice looking assortment of hardwoods! Unless my eyes deceive me that stuff looks like it's ready to burn. Also looks like 12 footer 2x4's! This thread should've been called : "A Man and His Honey Hole" It would make a good children's story, like "The Giving Tree"
If I didnt truly need it for heat, I would probably grab a big load of it for the fire pit, but thats about it.
That load looks pretty good. The only thing i'd be concerned about would be bugs, and bringing home some big old carpenter ants. One time i had my sights set on really nice red fir butt cuts, it was trim from a logging job. My friends property bordered the logged area. I asked the outfit that cut the timber if it was possible to get some of the butt cuts before they rotted. Fast forward 2 1/2 yrs, i was finally able to get permission to cut some of the wood up. It was big wood. so, i took my saw, gas, etc, and went to the area. 99% of it was bad, and rotted all to heck, full of carpenter ants, just about total loss. What a waste, i did salvage a pretty fair pile of stuff good enough for a outside burn area for my friend and his family, so not all was lost.
buZZsaw BRAD Thank you for grabbing that, not only for the gift factor for neighbor but also for setting a positive example as a true firewood hoader. You make me proud bro!
landlord has some sort of wood stove. Saw it once and i would be afraid to to have it in my house. Beat up, dangerous, inefficient piece of $%^T. He is beyond cheap. Sad thing is he has money, but has to barter, get second hand and/or free stuff. He burns any crappy wood he can. Lots of smoke comes out of the chimney and we know how bad that is. His house is in disrepair, yard full of junk and weeds. I dumped the wood right by the door where it can be stacked, but between him and his two useless sons and grandson it still sits. GF has rented from him for 12 years and ive lived here for 9. Our place just up the hill from him.
it was mostly red maple Urban Woods. There was all different shapes and sizes, muddy, gravel stuck to it. I picked out the best splits. Comped landlord to stay on his good side. He is 80 and can be very cantankerous. the 2x4's were 16' . Some was reclaimed form lumber. A couple of 1x4 PVC boards too.
I might not take all of it but at least the bottom two pictures I’d get, maybe glean off the better pieces.....but then I’m an addict.
I think that worked out perfect for you Brad. Gave the landlord with lessor standards some decent wood and scored some brownie points. You wear this hoarding badge very well
