FB marketplace listing. Supposed to look at them tomorrow. Nothing fancy here, but $125 for the seven saws. Might get a runner or two, who knows. Worth the effort?
Well, I went ahead and got them. So, here's the listing.. 2 Poulan Wood Shark model 1950 33cc saws 14" bars 1 Poulan 4620 46cc 20" bar 2 Craftsman saws.. 1 42cc 18" bar 1 unknown, seems to have a 20" bar, but I haven't found a model # yet. 1 Sachs/Dolmar 112 51cc no bar This one requires an air filter & cover, as well as the recoil start 1 Homelight saw, unsure of model yet, requires a muffler So, nothing very impressive, but should be fun working on getting them running. Gives me some specimens to experiment on. All seem to have compression, but I don't have a tester to determine how much.
That Dolmar is a good saw, I have one. Get it going and well wolrth the money. Not a high revver but has some balls for a 50cc saw.
Thanks for the info.. My attention perked a bit when I saw that one, I've read about them here, and they seem to be well regarded. Anyone know where I can nab some parts?? I'll know more once I dig in, but I mentioned above what I already know it needs. Thx
Online searching. Mine my grandfather bought in the mid/late 80s, not rare but not a ton around. You can check with a Dolmar dealer to see whats available still.
I have some of those 42cc x 18" Craftsman/Poulan saws...not bad...I've cut a ton of wood with 'em, for little $ outlay. Mainly use them for limbing, or bucking small trees. I have a little red one like that, I paid $20 for, runs like a champ and had a new B/C on it!
Not bad. Probably could get a few running with the basics (plug, fuel line, filters, carb kit). Wiggle every crank and dont bother with ones that have play. Piston/cylinder scoring would depend on if you have some free time and don’t mind spending a bit more.
It’s a slippery slope. Reminds me of one of my first steps on the slope; picked up 7 homies for $75 Have fun with them. It’s surprising sometime when a lot like that is bought and there are decent runners in the bunch that need only a little TLC to make them viable. I agree with tree killer that the Sach/Dolmar is the diamond in the rough.
For sure, one of my cutting buddies has an old Sachs Dolmar & it's a pretty impressive saw. See if that one can be made to run again, you'll like it.
Less than $20 each that's bargain even if you just needed some parts, could easily get your money back in the future selling what isn't needed.
