I agree with B.Brown. I use a 5x10 single axle utility trailer to take in my hauls. Can’t beat the low tailgate ramp for rolling on those big oak rounds. I find that if I can position slightly down hill from my “scores” I am able to roll on massive green rounds with only the help of gravity and my trusty hookaroon. I’m always on the lookout for a dual-axle trailer with a small footprint like my 5x10....with the single axle I have now I can only haul a little over 2000 lbs at a time. That’s not that much when it’s wet oak. See attached photo of my rig and my last score (poplar load I couldn’t resist due to ease of pick up).... think I’ll have enough kindling for next year?
Omg, pulling all that with an SUV. Yes, I’m missing out. I will find one eventually! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ok, I made another trip to my Oak score after work tonight. I went to a phone booth and quickly changed out of my suit into a flannel and jeans. I actually look forward to this at work now. The boss has caught on when I’m In meetings....”Zombie! Quit looking at wood and pay attention....sorry boss”. Anyways, I guess that’s my life now. So check these big boys out! Holy Moly Batman, they were heavy. Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood! Yeah, and I need a new part for the Raptor tailgate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nice! How are you loading those big rounds though? I keep jeans t-shirt/work gloves in my SUV and have definitely changed out of shirt and tie many a times on the road to get firewood. It’s an addiction for sure. And there is just not enough time in the day to go home and change and then head back out. I promised my wife a year ago that my wood habit would never impinge on family time.
Tailgate step roll up is my secret, and I fart multiple times when I’m lifting. I think that helps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You definitely are getting some great scores of primo wood! I’m usually too tired after work to get wood. More power to you
Ok, finally finished off this score with the 4th and final load. I’m done for the week. My dog Rocky is like...WTF master....your’re not done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, that was a smaller load tonight. I still have 2 cords of sugar maple I’m supposed to get now. I’m exhausted and my wood pile is getting too big now. I’m actually intimidated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
white oak and sugar maple are worth getting exhausted for. Rest up for the weekend so you can get that WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!
Not tired but my arms freakin hurt...bruises, scratches, bleeding. I bled on my pants today at work...freaked someone out. They think I’m trying to cut myself with all the fresh scars on my wrists. I tell them I’m a lumberjack and that shuts them up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I got a good one on my left wrist today loading an oak chunk. My shins are constantly getting whacked with logs and splits. Cuts and bruises on both.
I hope you'r taking your Rolex off when you getting that wood!! Maybe you can start a new dress code at the bank, on, lets say friday, call it wood cutters friday, wear you'r jeans, boots and shirt, Try a "hickory '' shirt, tough as nails, and wear them till they can crawl. They'll last longer that way. lol. If you wash them, you beat them to death, and shorten their life span by a lot. Get the full button model, long sleeve, then eventually you'll end up cutting the sleeves off when mother nature call's, lol.
