The bark doesn't look right for mulberry. This is mulberry. IMG_20190531_8528.jpg
I don't know what your wood is, though.

Looks like white oak to me based on bark, heartwood and dried leaves. Is this your wood or a score for the weekend cigarsmokingzombie ?

It’s white oak baby! Whooooooooooooooddd! Good call. I could only manage one load before I dented up the Raptor. Back to work tomorrow. I need to bring a change of clothes to work every day just in case.

Boy do I suck at wood IDs. Not even close to
Mullberry. I’m right about 7.568 percent of the time.

I was a lot better at Clue, Mrs Peachblossom was killed with the Apple branch in the woodshed.

Don’t be hard on yourself, it does look mulberry-ish.

So it’s it quantity not quality? That is the question.

First of all, I just learned how to multi-quote. After a couple years. By accident.

More importantly, I agree with amateur cutter. With the boiler, I took everything that came across my plate. At fifteen cord/yr, I'd burn cow pies and newspaper if I could get it for free. :) Lots of wood burners in my area, and quite a few boiler guys (and a nice boiler widow who everybody helped out until she moved) - so competition for good stuff is heavy. Everything will burn and release btus, so get it while the gettin's good was the mantra. As long as you've got a few cord of rocket fuel (sugar maple or red oak up here, hickory once) everything else fills the gaps nicely when it's above 0. ;)

I could be talking out of my backside, though. How much are you burning yearly? Seems like you've been hitting it hard judging by your posts of loaded Raptor pics. :D

Yes, & also dry time. I'll grab all the Oak I can get, but it takes time to dry even for the boiler. Silver Maple, Ash, Elm, Poplar & Pine all buy time for Oak & Hickory etc. to dry to their fullest potential. Dryer wood = less wasted btu's = less overall wood burned. 3yr seasoned Oak 6x6 splits will heat 24hrs in cold weather here, & I have a heavy load in my shop.

Great advice by all. Thanks. I’m burning about 10-12 cords right now. I always run short and either buy wood or switch to oil too early. Well, let’s just say that’s no happening any more. I’m collecting at least 2 cords a month in the raptor tales.

The further ahead you get, the less you'll burn. In the owb, even 6 months of seasoning makes a difference. Less water boiling off = fewer fan cycles = longer time between loads. In my experience, anyway.

Lol, I guess my house doesn’t hold heat well. But I do heat my hot water as well and I have not been burning properly seasoned wood. I seem to go through a cord every 2-3 weeks.
