Its been a couple weeks at least since I received any email alerts. Wasn't sure if I ticked some one off or not.....lol
Emails? I'm glad I don't get those from here. Last thing I need is my phone beeping every 10 secs because someone wrote something on here!
I'm trying guys.....nothing has been change on the FHC end of things....no idea why we ain't getting notifications... Bear with me....
I'm still working on it.....what a pain in the azz. We aren't the only forum that is having this problem.....seems that most email providers have considered may php-based email systems are now considered spam by the big providers (aol, yahoo, etc). So I tried to link up to a third party provider and it's STILL not working... Been ultra busy with way too many things on my plate...
What would be a reason to have email alerts even? It got turned on for my account for a while and my email was flooded! Seemed double redundant to have an email for a post.
For a PM, they are nice. But as a regular member that is helping someone with a problem they are dealing with in real time? It allows them to respond immediately. Rather than check in "whenever" . When someone wants help, they want it now. Or for a PM? I want that person to see it now. I like getting emails for everything. The alert system is nice. But I'd rather not use it. I normally have 2,000-3,000 alerts before I accidentally hit Alerts instead of Inbox.
Thanks for the update, I figured it might be a pain in the Azz Might have something to do with Net Neutrality Everyone needs to help fight this http://cms.fightforthefuture.org/tellfcc/
The watched threads section is handy too to make sure you haven't missed posts in a thread you are subscribed to.
I've never messed with any of that stuff. I just type in www.firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums and click on "New Posts" I hope I didn't break it. I kept getting 100s of emails from here about a post in whatever thread so I put it as "spam".
I can see the big ones not liking the emails the providers. Creates a huge burden on a free system. Nate the emails are nice for those who sit at a pc all day and want to respond to something when we get a chance after an Email is seen. Or those of us on a phone all the time. See an email click the view button and go there. Its easier and quicker to respond and when 2/3 folks do it that way you can have an almost realtime conversation without having to click the alert button or constantly refreshing. Also the new posts thing has all kinds of stuff on it. If I want to see what I am involved with not new stuff I want notifications whensomeone responds to threads iI am participating in.
Yes, keep us posted Scotty... It's a nice option, but do what you can when you can. . Nate - it's a really nice option too have. That's why I have a catch all email listed. But I can hear the "ding" come in quickly reference it. Decide whether to respond now or later. I can quiet that email listing out for the day. Then Do a quick reference at the end of the day.
Can't say I've seen anything on a board that was time critical to where someone "needed" to respond right away. Between getting flooded with calls, texts, messages from mybooks, facespace, twotter, and emails the LAST thing I want are emails about messages! As is my phone sounds like a frigging machine gun at times dinging from emails on 3 different accounts (personal and business)
Hmmm... Ok? It cut off my last paragraph? (This phone is gonna make me drink!) Basically its "info overload" and emails are double redundant. I'm not sure what subscribing means or watched threads. I guess I don't get into all this "whizz bang" stuff. I log on to the site when I want, click "new posts" skim though the list and click on any that might be interesting.
And as to Myspace, is that a joke, does anyone use that anymore, still up as a site? I know several years ago the only ones useing it were...let's see how should I say this to be PC? Well I just won't, cause I can't without someone thinking I am racist. And no pinterest or in stage am for me either.
