I ended up getting lupine seeds today. Probably won't see flowers until next year, but I have to start somewhere.
A few pictures taken late yesterday afternoon: Lilac A lone Lily of the Valley in the shrub garden at the side of the yard. It must have reseeded from . . . This bunch that is in my back yard Rhodie - Olga Mezitt Azalea - Mandarin Lights Rhodie - Purple Gem
I just finished for the day. The lupine were tossed into the tall grass. Lawn mowed. I cut out a large section of day lillies. They just take over everywhere. I kept a small area. I'll have to keep chopping them down over the next few weeks. Here is just after I started. They were very thick here and up against the foundation. The center of this had some poison ivy vines that I removed carefully. Lots of bittersweet in there to. There is a half circle of field stone buried in there. I ended up keeping the peonies, some daylilies, a small rose bush and some unidentified plant. I cut up some maple saplings and made a tepee trellis wound with cut grapevines from out back. I soaked morning glories overnight and planted them today at the base of each leg. I set the cultivator on a stake and put morning glories at the base too. It will look nice when it grows in. I'll probably put another hummingbird feeder up on the trellis too. Everywhere I dug around the trellis got the wildflower seed mix. Simple and rustic is good for me. It can go a little wild without me having to keep up on it. The big stone behind the trellis I believe is the old front step of the original 1875 home. I found more hand made bricks and set them along the walkway to keep the dirt in. I'm about wiped today. I've been at it since 8:00 am and steady right through.
Because it has been what, a whole week? Shame on you for being such a a slug Massive amount of work accomplished and it looks good. Hope you managed to keep away from the PI!
Haha. It was really overgrown here. The crawl space under this section is damp. I needed the sun to get to this area to help dry things out. The clogged, overflowing gitters did not help. Those lilies hold a lot of moisture. I used two layers of nitrile gloves and pulled them out easily. They were the vine type and just rambled there way through.
Heres 3 hangin baskets that i got with the help of farmer steve at the auction in Shippensburg....turned into a biddin war that i wasnt goin to lose...
when i saw them.....i said to myself...self...ya gotta get these. Then i saw all the people lookin at them...i thought...this is gonna be trouble....
How do they do it? Such a nice full pot. I have 2 pots along the sidewalk. For the past4 years I have been planting Marigolds attempting to get a nice filled in pot by late summer or fall. So far no luck. They do get a watering with Miracle Grow a couple of times during the season. Other times just straight water. Don't know if I am not planting heavy enough or not religiously picking the dead flowers off or what. If the problem is not planting heavy enough that could be corrected right now. I have extra plants and could cram the pot wall to wall.
They are really primo. That chartreuse creeping Jenny can go in the ground later, it's hardy in my yard so I'm sure it would be for you too.
Too much “holy moly” on them? You should probably dead head whenever it’s needed. Are there any drainage holes drilled in that planter? Is the planter (being that it’s sort of black... under what appears to be spray paint) heating the soil up too much?
Is that top one a picture you took, or one from another source? If it from an advertisement, they fill in with plants / cut flowers (which may or may not be real) to make it appear more full. Heck, the whole thing could be all cut flowers stuck in foam.
