We moved . Shut the dish off.
Been without TV for 6 weeks. Wasn't a priority with moving and the spring madness of business. Actually didn't have wifi till this week.
Finally this morning I set up the Amazon Fire TV . (Lots of apps to sort through)
Did a little research. Looks like Hulu is about the best option for some live TV channels . What are the available options ? Tricks, tips, and hacks ?What say the experts on FHC ???
I surely won't miss the quarterly bill increases and games the providers play !

Congratulations on the move! I hope this really turns out to be a good one for you.

As for the tv, ours have not been on since early February. Don't miss it at all. We usually turn it on maybe 6 times per year maximum.

We use roku so I'm not sure if you can add this to your amazon but if you can, check out philo.
She liked it and mentioned cutting the cable for it. It doesn't have the local channels but I believe it was all real time broadcasting on the channels it did have.
She's messed with a few over the years., Personally I went without TV for years and could still do without it.

Congrats on the move. Chaz watches hulu so he may be able to help you. I'm sure he will chime in later. He is up working on wood.

We use Amazon Prime (for things other than TV/movies too), and have Roku.
I'd LOVE to turn off DTV, but wife really enjoys watching shows that maybe aren't so easy to get elsewhere (I should check that).
Our son told us about Hulu several years ago (when it could be used for free), and wife has an account that's turned off at the moment.
I'm either on YouTube or here on FHC, so I'm not usually watching what she has on.
Like brenndatomu said, OTA antenna would be nice if you can get a signal.

I’m 40 miles as the crow flies from Seattle so I hopped on the antenna signal websites to see what was available and in what direction. Antennafool and one other are built to help you choose an antenna and then aim it. I built an antenna and it worked really really well so I moved it to the shop and then bought a commercial antenna and put it in the attic of the house.

Dude. It’s freaking awesome. We’ve been without cable for several years now and don’t miss it at all. We get all of the major networks, maybe 13 good channels and the same TVs talk to the WiFi to let us turn on Netflix if nothing is on tv.

As a disaster preparedness thing, we all should have an ota antenna setup. It’s pretty cool.

Oh and the networks broadcast in real hd. Not compressed hd like cable sends you so the picture is excellent.

Hulu just updated their app, not a big fan of the new format.

Not sure that it does any 'live-casting', but I'm mostly interested in older shows that aren't on the networks any longer.

I tether my phone to the TV, and try to make sure I use all of my available bandwidth each month.

It has to buffer if I go past the tethering limit, but still watchable.

Unfortunately being where we're at, OTA antenna won't work. Or I'd ditch Dish tomorrow.

I'm going on 3 years myself and have 2 firetv boxes loaded with Kodi. But we haven't used Kodi in a while since it's a pain in the azz to keep everything updated so we've just been watching via Amazon Prime and Netflix.

We shut off dish this last Christmas. Added HULU with HULU live and then Netflix a couple months later. Even with both, and the whole Hulu package, we save about $60/month. I like the idea of ota antenna as mentioned above and should get ours going. Our house has a powered one mounted on the roof still. It works as far as I know, but we’ve never tried.
We also had a dish tail-gator to take campering with us or to watch the Huskers on the patio. I’m not a big TV or even sports guy, but get sucked into the time wasting of it too easily. I’d rather read on here or a couple other forums if I have down time.

Sling TV or Playstation Vue seen to be the best of the attaining services. Hulu works well I hear, too.

We're closer to cutting cable, but we do have better internet now for the same price as our slow internet we had.

We are saving money already since dropping direct TV, and have faster internet over uverse dsl.

One thing we can't do without is that we need a way to DVR or cloud save shows to watch as we please. I want to watch what I want, when I want and not on their schedule only.

That only works if you get any signal. I looked into it and my house gets zero channels. That's what happens when you live at the bottom of a valley surrounded by granite mountains - not to mention that there is only 1 local station to begin with.
