Any time I go out to work on the wood pile I am talking with the girls or playing fetch with the dog. It took longer than it should have but I have split and stacked most of this stash of red oak.

As you can tell the dog wont even give me a long enough break to snap a few pictures.

Looks like a fair share of red oak. Work and play at the same time. Alright.

Any time I can get enough split for one day I consider it a success. Enjoy it now because believe me you are making memories for a lifetime.

Part of making firewood is the enjoyment factor imo. If I wanna throw a stick for the dog, stop & talk, or just enjoy being outdoors I'm going to. If it gets too much like work the fun of heating with wood goes away. Looks like you're doing just fine Gourley ! Carry on.

Great job Gourley  Sometimes interruptions are inevitable but looks like you had a good one! Split and stacked a bit of oak myself today.

Nice job. Enjoy both the kids and pup. They grow up way too fast.

That is one of those small disc swings for the kids. They like to toss it up and get it stuck in a separate branch.

I will always take a break for the kids. The 3 year old would come out and stand on a round so we could talk face to face or just sit there and watch.
Only when I run the chainsaw are they not allowed out there with me so I try to only do that when they are not home.

I've got a pile to cut today too.

Our 2 yr old grandson loves to be outside with Granddaddy and Meme. My hunny will bring him up on the golf cart to watch me cut. He will put his ear plugs in and have a blast. When I get through, he will get down and pick up small pieces and limbs, so he can help.

My Grandsons used to come out and help me split wood. They had croquet mallets for axes and would pound away without success. I had some small wavers cut one day and the youngest one managed to break it with his mallet and was all kinds of excited.
They wanted to cut down a tree one day so I turned them loose on a big pine and they beat on it until I thought they were going to girdle it and I had to stop them.
Now they’re big enough to run saws and split for real.
