Ours is always work till I get it dialed in then just a check each day. Always by Labor day I am ready to close it and move on though.
Not far off from that here, I can get started a little earlier and run a little later but we usually head out for vacation mid Sept so I just close it up. If we don't go and I want to run the heater we can go till early Oct. I enjoy the pool and like to see it used by anyone and everyone that wants to come.
Speaking of skeeters......coulda swore I saw one trying to break in the patio door yesterday. We're at 43 OAT now, but it was about 37 when I got up. Cool in the house...no fire in the stove, but the furnace is doing fine. Yesterday was really nice, so we went to a few garage sales where I was able to take home absolutely nothing that somebody else no longer wanted. We did however get DQ, so all was not lost.
I've seen just a few. Got bit by one a few days ago and when I swatted him the blood flew! Around here May 20 is usually the day those things hatch big time. Not looking forward to that at all.
I have buckets to collect water under the greenhouse downspouts and there have been mosquito wigglers in them already.
Next three nights will be in the low 30's. 36, 34, 33. And wet. And chance of s***! Yes, the OWB is still doing its job. It is already past a week since my own prediction to shut down was.....
Here is a little math you guys might like . If you take the BTUs it took to heat my houses this winter and turn it in to electric 3412 BTUs per kilowatt . And figure boilers 50% efficient. I generated 66 megawatts with my Heatmor 400. Now you can put your local electric price and see how much it cost for 66 megawatts. And yes I burned 132 megawatt wood to generate 66 megawatt.. 43f and fired boiler lastest in the year ever ... wet basswood and wet oak . And bunch saw dust . Sent from my LGL84VL using Tapatalk
I don't think it is going to make it to 45f today. We are holding at 43f , light rain, north wind 16mph, gusting to 30, with a wind chill of 34f. It has been a brutal stretch for the garden. My poor babies (14 tomato plants and 5 peppers) are sad. I planted wax beans and basil last week, but only a few are just poking though. It be interesting to see if I have to replant those or not. Everything else looks okay. Hopefully there is a enough foliage on the trees, and wind is just strong enough to stave off a ground frost, but there is an advisory in place for tonight.
Dropping temp now to 41f (edit just dropped to 40f within the last few minutes with 30f windchill), rain is letting off finally. Touch and go tonight for ground frost. The combination of wind, canopy and lingering clouds will hopefully be the saving grace. Concern here is for apple blossoms and tomatoes. Peppers should be okay as they are snug along north side of my garden shed.
67*s....since 5:00....we had 5 different thunderstorm cells come thru ....looks like 6 is 5 minutes away...then theres at least 2 more after....1 3/4 "s of rain since 5:00 Bin along time since we had a train like this....
My Hazmat suit is ready. I've only seen 2 ticks. One on our male Lab that was all but dead and another out by the stacks on a piece of plywood....of all places. Wife has a couple of older chickens free-ranging. We're hoping they feast on the little bastages.
