Thanks Jason! I'll have to give it a try when I get some free time, whenever that will be. As you know Scotty keeps me pretty busy!
Acres isn’t too accurate on the years a lot of times. The online IPL are more accurate for the years of manufacture
Mike Acres site is very good most of the time but it is far from 100% accurate. I was given a box of 394 xp last year and have been squrilling away parts for a rebuild. The cylinder I got was chipped above the exhaust (DDave was gifted that one) and Cole had a jug and slug I bought. A few more parts from the dealer and I will be putting mine together.
I liked your idea of taking all the pics before tear down. And you asked for pics. This is the first time I’ve come across machine thread on the handle. Both bottoms machine. Side are the normal coarse.
$20 Craigslist find, it was full of mineral spirits too. I put a magnetic block heater on it for winter time cleaning. That makes it usable when it's cold as my hands don't care for liquids that are below freezing,
Another new one for me. Limiter screws. I questioned them looking under the covers but had to deal with them pulling the tank.
I see the hard to find HD intake elbow. Nice. I like it much better that the low top version. Clamping the filter keeps fines out much better than the press fit.
Glad to hear that the filter is better. I sniffed around and got a hold of an elbow, cover and filter for mine too.
This what came with the saw. Seems more like a bolt catcher than an air filter. And some plugged 20% of the holes with tape, making it smaller. Should there be a foam sock on the outside of this thing?
I’m guessing the tape is there to add a little width to keep the lid on and the foam sleeve is long gone.
