Bought a little el cheapo dump wagon. The price was right. Eventually I’d like to get a decent one but this one my mom can use around the property,,,,once I’m done putting it through its paces I liked the large handle to help in dumping. It was a convertible. You could swing the tongue arm up and underneath itself to use like a wheelbarrow. Nice idea but it made for a sloppy and way too short tongue arm. So short you could only tow in a straight line. Local steel supplier donated some free steel. Was obviously gonna charge me but he bound up the metal sheer and I spent some time helping him fix it. Appreciated it enough to just give me the metal. Good deal. Next I’ll think I’ll weld some extensions to the axle. It’s just too tippy as is. Dumped it over with a full load in the woods. Might as well make it woods worthy,,,,,as much as possible anyway. Some old red oak rounds that were left in the woods two years ago. I see why these cheapies get bad reviews. The engineering is just off in an attempt to keep the price so low. Doesn’t take too much to make them serviceable as long as you have a welder.
Looks like it could be very serviceable with your mods in place. I often do that. Purchase an item based on it's potential after modification. Certainly helps to have all the metal working tools to accomplish the mods!
Yep it doesn’t take much. A welder and some angle grinders and your in business to do rough steel work I also like the methodology because for a few bucks I now have experience in what to look for when I shell out cash for a good one. Thinking of moving the tray ahead 3-4” too. A little extra tongue weight and a little more effort to dump. Both are light as is and it’ll help empty the tray better. A good trade off I think. I knew these angled back trailers didn’t dump well just by pics but improvements can be made. That big handle helps in that department. It’s been about a year since I bought a welder. Quite a few projects already done. Pretty soon the fleet will be complete and I’ll have to go back to processing firewood.
I think they make them for "Joe average homeowner" and not like us wood hoarders use them jo191145 . Seems like we overload and put equipment thru its paces. And i wasnt meaning you as Joe average homeowner.
no doubt they’re supposed to haul leaves and not wood Been internet shopping for awhile for a decent atv trailer at a decent price. Spend hours reading reviews. Everything from $200 - $2000. I noticed many complaints with this homeowner style and the dump lock/release mechanism not working. This lightly used one had the same issue. Previous owner was a 95 year old man that no longer needed it. (Can’t blame him) Looking at the few cut corners they did it’s no wonder so many people have issues with it. A few sparks later and it works great
jo191145 I bought a poly Ohio steel industries pivot dump cart probably 6 years ago. It was designed for atv but I use it behind my lawn tractor. Has insert holes on the sides for slats. Thinking it has a 750lb rating. Beat on that thing pretty hard leaves firewood mulch top soil. It has served me well and would buy one again for sure.
Yeah I dont think this one is even of that quality. Not sure what it is as there’s no sticker left. I’d have to say this is the bottom of the barrel. Probably rated for 200lbs if I had to guess. Think I’ve seen some rated that low. Just a little beef added and the capabilities rise. I’ve seen the Ohio steel. Haven’t checked the specs. Mostly I’d be interested in width of tires. Outside to outside the tires are around 31” on this one. That’s just too narrow to stay upright with a high center of gravity heavy load in my woods. Figuring to add another foot to that dimension.
