I used to throw the 12"ers in the nugget bin bulldozerjoe but two years ago ended up with too many and it seemed like a good place at the time. The stack wasnt that tall, but as i had more id keep putting them on top. It fell last year and you'd think idve learned.

this is why I stack in double rows and use "key ways." they are thin little strips of wood that are usually about the thickness of your finger. put those in as you stack that holds both stacks in place, all of my stacks are over 6 foot tall and I haven't had one fall since I started using the key ways.

I really do not like to see folks stacking wood between trees. Why take a chance on damaging the trees and so many times the stack gets weak from the movement when the wind blows strong. Then our old friend gravity takes over and down it comes. I'm proud that I don't have to restack our wood. I do stop at 4 1/2' on the height as that seems to be the point where if you go higher, it gets weaker. The only exception is when I put wood in the barn for winter use I stack up to 7' but it will be there only for the winter and none has fallen over in there yet.

Unfortunately I have adequate equipment for either the belly or the butt bump!

It happens to all of us. I just finished this one, went in for supper and found this when I went back outside.

I didn't hear anything so it must have not made a sound.

On the stacking thread someone posted about stacking a long branch across the stacks for stability. I’m going to try that out next time.. my stacks wouldn’t be so high except they are up on a ledge. I could really get buried if it can down on me. I would be making a sound if I was in the wood.

that $#@%$. I stacked mine back in December. I did have to bump it back into alignment once. I checked my other stack of shorts that is 6' tall and the top 2' fell off as well. :headbang: I pulled the rest of the shorties from the first stack and am making a new pallet rack. Gotta get more pallets. Just brought in ten a couple weeks ago Marshel54
