If a stack falls in your processing area, does it make a noise?...YES!

I was in my processing area this afternoon splitting oak from last weeks score when suddenly "CRASH"... this stack falls over about 20' behind me. I turn around and it was a 6' tall stack of 12-14" shorts piled between two trees. Was it the wind rocking the trees? My chopping creating seismic activity? i dont know, but either way it has to be restacked.
I have a habit of trying to go taller with stacks.
It was one of those "well this seems like a good place to stack this" ideas at the time and only had enough of them to fill it. Maybe a face cord. I had a pile of the same there last season. Actually a good thing as i wanted to move it anyhow and have a bunch more of the same length.
There's only one thing worse than stacking...having to restack!
And i didnt even get a chance to yell "TIMBER"!

Well it wouldn’t be hoarding if there wasn’t a chance you could get buried in it, right?

Those little shorties are a pain to stack.
I tried going more than 5' when I first started, and those stacks almost went over.
I made 'em shorter. I won't go taller than 5' anymore.

Gets worse when the stack is more than 8' wide. They like to develop a bow in the middle. I give 'em a chest bump every once in a while.

The trees sway and wiggle quite a bit.
In a good wind sometimes you can feel the roots of a pine tree wiggling under your shoes.

My grandpa used to call them avalanches, it’s happened many times in the wood room in the basement.. got 20 facecord stacked green/wet.. come fall that 2o cord shrinks...one wrong pull off the stack and it avalanches... seen it many times... it’s dangerous.... iv learned over the years to measure each log with a 18 inch piece of conduit... run down the log with the conduit and can of spray paint... it stacks better when everything is same length... expecically when you u got multi rows.. just my 2 cents
