45f here now. I had to scrape my truck windshield yesterday morning. The garden is on virtual standstill with very little growth, and no asparagus yet either. It looks like another cooler week ahead.
A nice 34 morning, spruce keeping the house toasty. It was flurries when I woke up it’s picked the pace up a bit, to a good snowfall.
Humid and 60 all day here. Ducked the clouds and impending rain to bring micro-me to Hancock Shaker Village. Every calving season they let folks tour through the animal section and get into the animal pens with the little fellas; goats, sheep, cows, etc. she had a ball chasing chickens around and hugging the baby animals. Cried a little when she tugged on the donkey's ear and got a good faceful of donkey screaming breath. Lol Got home and worked up a good sweat before dinner cleaning up snow plow whoopses on the lawn and clearing the driveway of bark and splitter trash (gotta split where ya can when snow is all over!) while my lady knelt her pregnant self on the ground and cleaned up the flower beds while micro-me ran around throwing mulch all over. And of course after all this, mama's chilly. Happy wife, happy life - pine and sugar maple roasting the girls in their own juices. I'm sticking to the garage this evening with the doors open and a couple adult beverages.
Rained all day. Loaded the stove twice with pine to bring the inside temp up to 72ºF. High for the day outside was 51ºF
Cold and raw again here, the calender says May, but it isn't, Lit a fire in the late morning to drive out the chill. Another lastest fire record broken.
42 Lots of cloudy days this spring. Little to no solar gain. Still have small fire in the OWB every day. Big punky round of Tag Alder been keeping the water temp 115 for 24 hours. Discovered punky wood is ideal for shoulder season . Instead of burning up into a heavy coal bed ash just flakes off with minimal heat.
Got up to 61ºF outside today and sunny by noontime so no fire needed. Even though it is still kinda muddy from all the rain we've had, got some things planted in the garden today. It will just have to be good enough.
Had some reasonably dry weather over the weekend. The wood stove was burning almost non-stop for the whole weekend also.
The highs on Thu may not get out of the 30's! The overnights are still in the 20's and 30's. And yes, still using the OWB here!
Hey gang! Im still burning nightly and not looking forward to shutting the stove down this year. I was bbqing last night and we had big fat flakes coming down. Often Im ready to be done by now but Im thinking Ill miss the burning once im done for the season. Ive been out harvesting lots of wood the last while, spruce, lodgepole pine and doug fir. The rounds are starting to stack up so it may be splitter time soon. They wont dry much if I leave them in rounds!
24 this morning. Dang! I hooked the water up at the cottage, that place can get too cold in a hurry as the "crawl space" is open and exposed to outside; hope pipes don't freeze......
44° here this AM, and I've got a fire going to warm up the basement. I might even bring more wood in! I reload a couple of times, all burnt out by noon. I mowed yesterday, so today I can play with wood. It's hard to imagine, but in a month I'll be opening up the pool, and it would be nice to have most of the wood off the patio. I won't mind if this cool weather continues for awhile.
Just think, in something like 55 days, the days will start getting shorter. Hard to believe isn't it?
Had fire in stove yesterday and this morning. Fortunately although rain was forecast Monday through Thursday we've basically gotten none so far and now they say no more until tomorrow. Then the next 2 days of rain but probably off and on so still can get some work done.
