64C2673D-0B6B-4194-84BC-9C5F08C9E5A8.jpeg Hello. I am fairly new to this awesome forum. I’ve posted in the modern epa stove section, but never here in the wood pile.
My name is Tim and I reside in Mount Laurel, southern New Jersey. Today it is raining steady and doesn’t look like it’s going to let up. Should I just call today a wash and relax or should I get my butt outside and split or stack? I don’t want to get my new 461 wet so cutting is out of the question. Oh and here are some pics of where I am at so far.

I'm pretty convinced your Stihl can handle the rain Tim. Used mine several times in wet conditions (have it for 20 years now).

    Hello and welcome, Tim.

Depending on locale and need, I usually pass on working outside in the rain No need to add slipperiness, imo.

I don't think loggers in the PNW quit with a little rain....

But I'm not a logger so I don't work in the rain either :p

I can attest my Husqvarnas still work in the rain

Okay so perhaps the real problem here is that I hate being cold and wet.. especially on my only day off in weeks..
I just wanted to hear some perspectives of more seasoned hoarders.
    Thanks.

Well if it is just a light sprinkle then no big deal but if it is a steady rain then no. If I hear any thunder at all then a definite no. Does the Dozer run.

Yes I agree Mag. It’s raining steady and hard; with some pretty high gusts of wind, and it’s chilly. That’s a wash for me. I’m standing inside with the space heater on as I’m totally out of seasoned wood :(

As for the dozer, I’m not sure but would say probably yes it does. I had to drive out 3.5 hours to this place in PA that sells the spider lifts to pick one up I dropped off there last week to be fixed. The dude bought an old 84 Lumber and collects old military vehicles and machines.

Welcome to the club :handshake: looks like you’re well on your way. I enjoy putting up wood, so I try to keep it enjoyable. I take a pretty relaxed pace ( lazy?) and try to pick my days according to weather. With that said I often do it in single digit temperatures :shiver:. Cold is ok, cold and wet? Not so much. I guess I just like being outdoors in the winter, SOMETIMES. Just keep it safe and enjoyable.

welcome to the forum tim117  ive made firewood in light rain and damp conditions. I dont get cold as i keep moving. Not crazy about doing it that way...all depends how i feel. Safety is a major concern as always using a saw in the rain. The wood can always wait! Any stacking to be done?
Good choice on the 461! I have the 460 and have been tempted to get a 461 or 462 upgrade!

I'll cut when it is snowing. I've cut in very light showers (more like finishing up). Rain-not so much. Better to sit inside and check the weather radar for a break fanatically like one might the current status of a package delivery from Amazon.

Awesome brother! I know the Nackle well and I’m all about the V town. I haven’t done any wood or outside today. Maybe I’ll get some laundry done eventually.
I did a little maintenance on my saw.

I don’t mind splitting and stacking in the rain. In the PNW there is a lot of it and wouldn’t get much done without working in it. Splitting and stacking is enough movement to stay warm.

    That is my suggestion too.

No good running a saw in what could be slippery conditions, unless you have studded boots or something. Besides I find firewood hoarding to be 90% splitting moving and stacking and 10% cutting.

Get the wood stacked and sharpen chains if you need something to do.

Welcome to the woodpile Tim. I don’t collect firewood so I can get wet and cold ;) of course I have but,,,,,,,
You’ll know your a full blown hoarder when you take that man lift and install a grapple on it :)
Looks like you have some fun toys there. That and I just love the word grapple,,,grapple grapple grapple.
