Been watching the 4 eggs in this robins nest in our front shrub. I came in after 4 and there was still eggs. Checked before supper and two hatchlings. Probably less than an hour old. There's a cardinal nest in the other shrub with 5 eggs.
We had a nest on the front porch a few years ago. I had lots of video and pics of the little guys. Got one of them crapping on another’s head. When they left the nest the mother would still feed them on the ground. My wife was taking pics of them one day and a crow swooped down and snatched the baby. She said robins came from all directions trying to get it back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reloader we are surrounded by woods on all four sides of the house and there is not a single naturally occurring conifer in sight..all deciduous hardwood. The only conifers are the four shrubs in front and an arborvitae at the edge of the woods in back. So there is minimal cover for the birds to nest. Seems there is always a nest in one or more. The cardinals were right outside the bow window last year and we would watch and check the nest. Eggs hatched and a couple days later they were gone. Either crow, blue jay or nocturnal animal got them. All four still accounted for.
yup, same here. Ill go to turn on the back light and hear them chirping at the feeder Ctwoodtick even many minutes later! Our first hummingbird this morning! She put feeders out a couple weeks ago.
In Spring, I have to keep the garage door open. Because no matter how fast we shut it there's always a nest on top of the opener with eggs in it..
Mine are the 1st in the feeder in the morning. Although it empty right now. We have a bear that shows up every spring. We have a small metal garbage can we put the seed in. I asked Chaz earlier this year to bring onto the porch for me. Well last week something got into the can and had a nice little snack. It was almost empty. We thought it was a racoon. Two days later Chaz found the lid was bent up. So now we leave the feeder empty for a few weeks and he generally leaves the feeder alone for the rest the year.
the light over our front door has a swallow's nest on it. They make a mess on the outdoor rug Canadian border VT. Bits of moss, twigs, grass, and of course droppings. I let them nest and deal with it. Tried charging them rent but they said no!
Get a nest or two in my shop of Barn Swallows. They're a bit messy, but the keep the skeeters under control. They can stay.
I’ve never seen this until this morning, but had 2 orioles chomping away on my platform feeder that has 2 of those bell shaped seed ball thing on it. That was a banner moment in my bird feeding.
We've never had orioles at a feeder! Ironically she has an orange to put out and entice them. Ive seen their nests but havent seen one in a couple years. I caught a quick glimpse of the hummingbird about 630
It was really wild! I wonder if it’s the weather we’re having or something. I’ll be sure to be checking for them more often now.
Maybe just a matter of timing Ctwoodtick. Did you ever see their nest? Google it and you'll be amazed. Hangs off a tree limb. weve had these the last couple Summers...rose breasted grossbeaks.
Funny i posted those bird pics last night Ctwoodtick. Im making my coffee this morning, look out the window and one was at the back of the feeder. Grabbed the camera, but couldnt get good shot. All of the sudden the hummingbird shows up!
Man what a great time of year for the birdwatching! I just checked out the oriole nest on google. Makes you wonder how they evolved to know how/why to do that. Hopefully there’s a nice firewood score in between where we are. It would be nice to meet you sometime. B even nicer if it was a massive score of locust, but that might be getting ahead of myself.
The nest is unmistakable. Seen them dangling precariously from a limb. Seasick fledglings in a breeze?! Snapped this right before i came in at 6 tonight. Cardinals! There is so much wood available to me around here i doubt id travel although it would be cool to cut a score with a fellow FHC member Ctwoodtick . You did tell me your name but ive turned 51 since then and cant remember!
