Got This sugar maple also It was a plunge cut on the left, and typical drop on the right. Not a lot of meat holding these up, so it’s time. Block this up next weekend!!!
Well, forgot the tape so used the Peavey instead. 24" bar was about an inch short on a couple of them.
im REALLY impressed Stephiedoll! Did you or the truck get a hernia or both? How long is the peavey? I had access to red oak that big at a roadside scrounge last December. I didnt even consider it. Too far off road and bucked too long.
Didn’t get to do any splitting today, wound up bagging up the rest of the grindings from my big black oaks stump, put some rounds on a rack, and offset some electrical conduit that was bothering me. Then my 8 year old had a flag football game, came home and bbq’d. Now I am sitting and having a beer. Hoping to get to more splitting next weekend.
My plans went to crap today. It rained last night so it was too muddy. I thought I could get by with a little mud, I was incorrect. I had to have my wife drive the truck while I pulled it out with the tractor. The rest of the wood I wanted to move was not accessible with the mud. I salvaged the day and started cleanup on various projects and have a load ready for the dump.
dont feel bad OhioStihl, i got stuck 5 times in mud over the Winter and Spring. BuZZsaw's famous last words "i wont get stuck"! Just dont tell anyone please!
G4U Woodsnwoods Did rain hold out? Has any of your beech been hit with that black fungus? Your thread gave me a little extra motivation. I ended up getting most of the oak stacked (need more 4x4's to extend pile.) and split 75% of last weeks scrounge. Have to buck and noodle whats left, dead ash and red oak. Showers this AM, but let up and i SS this afternoon some, it was cooler which helped. Lined up a future score 15 minutes away...all red oak. Looked at another which i declined...huge gnarly silver and sugar maple. pile of all red oak . Weathered ones just split today 18-20" oak splits to be stacked separate from my normal 16" splits dead ash to be bucked mostly sugar maple to be bucked too oak shorties to be noodled yet.
are you strictly cutting dead wood or whatever you feel like at the moment? Is there a lot of oak in your woods?
The road I access my sales on has a few wet spots, that would swallow a loaded truck and trailer. I am also waiting for my ATV log trailer to be finished up.
Truck and Stephie are good to go.Peavey is 51.5"/48" when it starts to flare out. I think it's basswood so not the greatest, but should burn after some baking in the backyard.
Sometimes I wonder why I bother making a plan! Instead of general backlot clean up I went to an auction both days. Saturday’s was fun & stuff was cheap. Bought an older “Electric-o” saw & an old blue Coleman lantern ( never seen a blue one before) for $3 each and a Coleman heater with box and papers for $15 today’s sale was a bust cold and windy. The Husqvarna chainsaw listed on the sale bill was a 241??? I think? Sale bill didn’t say & I’ve already forgot. But it didn’t look like it was worth standing in the cold wind for 2 hours to try & buy a $25-30 saw. Already drove 2 hours to see it. So turned into a Sunday drive with the wife
i used to attend auctions strictly for coins but found myself buying other stuff Sandhillbilly There is one not far from here every few months. Always cool to see what is for sale!
Oh you always come home with other stuff, part of the game. I’m always checking out sale bills. Probably make 4-6 sales a year. It had been a while since I’d gone to one, so I was kinda jonesing for one. But I got my fix so I’m good for a while. Plus I haven’t been to one since I came down with a terrible case of CAD!!
