Please tell us more about the drone. I've really been thinking about getting one but still unsure. I see some that are not too high priced but others are way up there. I want something that I could fly over our place and still have enough juice to come back and land. Also it appears there can be a lot of breakage with them and I don't really want something that needs fixing all the time.
This one is a DJI Phantom 4. I bought it used but it seems to be in good shape. I don’t know if they still make them. It has sensors on the front to avoid collisions, but the newer ones have sensors on all sides. It has a feature where with one button push it will climb to a designated height and return to the place it last took off from. Also will automatically return if the battery gets low. Getting about 15 minutes of flying time to drain battery to about 30%. They make some smaller ones now that are easier to pack around. The camera can be tilted up and down with the controller while in flight. Only drawback on this one is there is no zoom on the camera, but it still takes decent pics. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
It would be great Eric. Well Seasoned's son has one and he took good pictures at his gtg last summer. I'm sort of aching for one...
I found mine slightly used for $600. Still high but quite a bit less than a new one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They are a bit pricey, but the technology is decent. One really cool feature is how it can hover above you while your mowing or hiking, anything really and it'll stay clear of objects by itself. It can make up for wind as well. The camera ain't too shabby either.
The technology of drones has progressed quite a bit over the last few years. Many features that were on high end drones years ago are now available on moderately priced ones today. If you are looking to use a drone for a hobby, you can find a drone for under $ 200 that will fly and make pictures. It will probably suit your needs. I started with the phantom 4, then the Inspire 1 and now the Inspire 2.
Do you need a smart phone to run the drone? Do you have a screen so you can view where the drone is at or do you have to just take pictures and view them later? Can you fly the thing looking at the screen or do you have to have the drone in view at all times? Reloader Well Seasoned viewfinder
Yes Backwoods, you will need a smart phone to operate the drone. Your phone is your screen for viewing the camera as well as other data such as battery status, height, distance etc. I use an iPad for better viewing. The videos and pictures are captured on an onboard sdhc memory card. You can then download your files after your flights. You should always keep the drone in sight while flying. That is one of the rules governing the use of drones. Other rules include keeping it below 400 feet, not flying over roads etc. I fly a drone for work so I had to get an FAA license and follow all the rules.
