    Looks like some black oak or red oak, but I’m not an expert

    I think the rays might mean its oak.

    Never seen red oak bark peel off like that. I have lots of oak put up, lots.

    Here's a pic of a split. A couple of pieces have tiny holes in the wood. Splits super easy and seems like a lot of moisture. Definitely A reddish tint to the wood. 0426191853.jpg

    Bark looks more like Black oak than red. Either way it's oak!! CSS it

    after seeing the pic of the split its definitely red oak CaptainNemo . Not sure of the variety. Tree was partly dead with missing bark. I cut some with the bug holes like that this past winter. Nice score BTW!:thumbs:

    I hereby name the wood "Mortimer."

    Mortimer looks like oak for sure. :)

    Thanks for the help guys! I got permission this evening from the landowner to cut up the rest of the tree, probably 15 foot main trunk section that was left on his property. Best part of all, its literally 100 feet down the road from my house!:thumbs:
