Pin oak

A buddy of mine wants me to come cut about a 15” or so pin oak that’s shading his garden. Gonna be a little hairy cause of the guide wire and the house but I think I can pull it off. I can have all the wood

 

It's not the oaks fault, it's the person who decided that was a good spot for their garden

 

Good wood, just be careful on the drop.

Which way you planning to drop it?
Can you tie a line on it just to be sure it can't go toward the house?

 

I haven’t went and surveyed the situation yet. I may have to do that

 

Is the garden planted yet? looks pretty straight and a couple wedges in the back cut plus a rope to pull it over should suffice? Howdf the tornado clean up go rebelduckman? Did you get any wood from it?
Amazing how your leaves are out and how green everything is there. Our grass just starting to green up and trees just budding here in Connecticut.

No, lol! That happened to a really good friend of mine though. His sister married well and built a very large house. After construction she decided she wanted a large tree away from the house. This guy is an engineer and a very good woodsman. When it started to fall it spun on the trunk and went through the house. Insurance did cover it.

 

Glad the insurance covered it.

 

Well we both decided it would be best just to leave this one alone let a professional take care of it. I don’t want to be a home wrecker

 

You know your own ability, so when in doubt! Tree services will discount the price if they dont have to buck, limb, remove the tree. Get price first then ask them price just to fell tree rebelduckman

I did the same thing. A friend asked me to cut a few trees in their yard. I cut three which were safely far enough from ther house that if I screwed up and it fell they wrong way I was still safe but the last one they wanted down was 2 feet from a tool shed with a serious lean toward the shed. They said it would be ok if I destroyed their shed but I sensed they would not have really felt that way if I demolished it on accident. I did not want to become that guy that they forever remembered for destroying their tool shed. So I told them I just did not feel comfortable and didn’t want to take a chance. If they lean was away from the shed it might have been different but the top had an awful lot of branches that made it hard for me to figure out where the center of gravity might be so I thought it better to preserve the friendship and told them I just didn’t feel experienced enough to attempt that one and I thought that a professional would be the best option.
