I am serious this year about trying to put up 150 cords. I usually get 115-130 done but this year will be different....so I keep telling myself. I do have a good jump on things this year and I’m pretty sure I have the material. I like to make one windrow pile at a time but this year I have 3 going. The first and third pic are my oak lines, the second pic is my mixed hardwood line and the last pic is oak and mixed that will get sorted as I go. The last pic are long pieces I keep separate.
I hire some teens to help with splitting, other than that I do all of the cutting and a fair amount of the splitting as well. I’m a teacher so I hit it real hard during breaks and summer.
That’s quite the workout. I split for 4 hours yesterday alone. Let’s say my back is feeling it today.
very impressive jrider This answered my question from the other post about 150 cords. I didnt see the new post til now. Nice to have the elbow room to work on that much quantity. I have to bring in either cut rounds or 4-8' shorts in my main processing area and have to CS and sometimes stack to make room for more! Rumor has it there is a tree shortage in your area of Jersey? Just a rumor though!
It’s an effort to keep the work area clean and orderly. There are days spent just cleaning up bark, moving uglies, and long pieces around.
Been a little while since I last posted. I’ve made some decent progress for this time of year when my kids sports schedules are in full swing. Also, my tree guy has decided he wants to bury me in logs which is fine by me. The piles of splits look deceivingly small in the pictures but they are about 8’ tall and 12’-14’ across at the base.
Great that you have the space? Wish i had more, but never intended to have this much wood? What do guesstimate your inventory of wood? How much CS?
It’s all at my moms and there’s 5 acres of field. I’m using up about 3/4 of an acre at the most probably closer to 1/2. I’m thinking I have 45 cords split so far and probably 120 cords of logs.
All right jrider you win, I'll quit callin ya slacker now. Nice work man, it does look like you've got a pretty good jump on the year. When's your last day of school?
