I have a 1230 MF with loader ( 35hp)- it will not pick up stuff that large either ( 700 lbs max lift) but I can mostly curl the bucket to get an end up so I can get a chain or strap around it, have tongs also but sometimes they slip trying to pull off flat bed, after it is off I just roll it with the the tractor and the loader. last week I had a 36" x10+ foot or so piece of ash on trailer( guesstamate at 2500lbs) field is a bet soft and turf tires on tractor - no chains- that bugger stopped me dead. I got it up a bit on one end and slid a 4x4 under rotated choke chain to bottom and leter rip - slid off trailer and of course when it hit ground full length dead in my tracks again, so rolled it to where I wanted it.
Did some splitting today from the hoard. Trying to develop a good setup where I can work smarter, not harder. This seems to be working out. Drag off trailer onto splitter, split and turn around and stack.
Oh and just had a message exchange with a guy on Youtube who says only real men split by hand with an axe. Ive done some of that with straight grain woods like Douglas Fir. It's fun once in awhile, and good exercise. Some of the stuff I got from this hoard looks like this. I'd like to be sitting back in a lawn chair with a beer watching that guy hand split this stuff...
bigfrank Looks like you are making good progress and saving bend overs is always a good idea IMO. Here in Ohio I only have experience with white oak, had to let it air dry for a minimum of two years and was worth the wait. Curious with the dryer less humid climate out there if two years would be required
We shall see. I have a moisture meter and will keep checking it. I's running 35% on fresh cut (though its been on the ground for a month or so) It gets real hot here in the Summer, so I'm hoping that it will be ready to sell by next Winter. On the work smarter front, A guy came by and bought my trailer. I had it listed for sale, but wasn't really ready to sell it yet. Oh well, guess I'll get my dump trailer now!
That dump trailer will be the game changer for you. My financial advisor (hunny) finally admitted she wished we had gotten ours years ago...get one with ramps and big enough to haul your tractor if you don't have another trailer. Sure makes scrounging wood easier.
jo191145 not sure if you are concerned about it, but your trailer plates are easily readable. Just sayin
Gotta admit I’ve never figured out why anyone is concerned with that. They’re easily readable every time I drive on the road. When I havent left it in a ditch somewhere anyway.
I guess it helps keep down the # of internet stalkers. Not much to do about the others. I have posted pics of my car, which is quite noticeable going down the road, but have blacked out the plates. OK, don't wanna derail the thread. Back to the oak hoard.
