I thought angels share was evaporation.. Gone for good
Devils cut was absorbed into wood.. Meaning you could get it back. Through dehydration, or maybe my family was a little religious..

I think they are one in the same.

I'm not well versed in bourbon/ whiskey though. I know I like it, and I went on the JD tour years back. That's it.;)

What does the Angels Share mean?
: the amount of an alcoholic drink (such as cognac, brandy, or whiskey) that is lost to evaporation when the liquid is being aged in porous oak barrels Up to 1 percent of the volume of the cask can be lost each year through evaporation, sometimes called the angel's share.—

Woodsman Buffalo Trace is my favorite too. Someday I'll make it down that way and take the tour.

That's exactly what the devil's cut is.

Edit... It's a little different, but the net effect is the same. In that it's gone. Angels share is evaporation. To evaporate, it has to go thought the wood.

    THE DEVIL’S CUT

If the angels get their share, the devil also demands his. The expression “the devil’s cut” refers to the loss of distillate which is absorbed by the wood of the casks. In this case, since it is not evaporation, the devil’s cut does not affect the alcohol content of the product, but depends solely on the porosity of the wood used. I
