Good for you man! I mean that, not being sarcastic. I just don't like messing with that big stuff. I sell wood and time is money for me. They do make a pile of barkless clean splits though.

Got all that loaded today and hauled to the house. Man, that was a heavy load! Busted down a few more biggies with the saw and now ready for to crack them down. Cant get back for a few days now. Need to get the trailer unloaded and finished split and stacked. There is way more wood there than I thought!

On another note.... Had something weird happen today, maybe you guys have a clue as to what may have happened. I was cutting with my 372xpw and set it down to move some bucks out of my way. I notiecd that they saw had rolled over on it's side (recoil side) and was idling. then is died. Finished what I was doing and went to restart. Couldn't pull the rope. Felt like it was seized. Let it sit for awhile, but no change. Came home and started pulling it apart and getting ready to order an new top end. Pulled the plug, and the recoil starter. Noticed that the piston was in the down position after pulling the exhaust. turned the crank and it spun over just fine. Piston looks normal and all seemed to be good. put it back together and it runs fine. Only think I can think is when it rolled over on it's side, sonthing happened to the recoil start and locked up the starting mechanism. Any thoughts?

If the logs where at home, things would be different. Since the wood is about 15 mile away, I can't have all my stuff there. Can' only haul one thing at a time.

About 15 miles each way, so I can only haul one thing at a time. If I had those logs at the house, things would be different. I have a tractor and some other gear I could use.

I'm quickly learning that smaller stuff is king. Those big rounds are just a lot of extra work.

My neighbors had a bunch of big pines and two sugar maples taken down and the tree company had to use a crane. So being the FHC opportunist like
bigfrank and so many others. I asked if they could swing the maples over into our yard. They weren't sure if they could do it but I came home from work.

Like sugar maple manna from heaven these babies were laying there. Not as big as the oak but way to big to lift. Advantage here is already at home.
It was a battle trying to get these manageable. The only premium hard wood I have not burned is sugar maple and osage orange so I am grateful.

If you can haul your tractor to the site, use it to load your trailer. Roll rounds off at home.

If I could get logs home, it would probably be worth it. But hauling rounds I think would just be an extra step. So far, I've been able to get the rounds into the splitter. And since I have the splitter hooked to the quad, it's easy to move the splitter to the rounds if needed.

Glad you got it worked out. Before we got our dump trailer, we would load logs on equipment trailer and pull them off with a cable hooked to a tree, pull trailer out and roll the logs out of the way. Ya do what ya have to do.

Big rounds- another way to move them if you can get an end elevated a bit is a tow strap wrapped around it a few times- then what ever you have for motavational power of pulling on one end of strap. I have one of those $60 2k 12 volt winches, chains, straps, tongs, come-a-long, big screw in eye bolts ect . I have moved 4x4 ft rounds that way. ( can't always slice and dice on sight)

I have a car hauler and a deck over trailer. If I could get those logs on either, I'd get them off somehow at home.

What attachments do you have for your tractor? Does it have a loader or can you get a boom pole for the 3 point hitch? We logged for a portable sawmill in the '80's with a 35 Massey Ferguson with just a drawbar on the hitch arms with clevis and log tongs. If you can put some standards on deck over trailer, put poles on opposite side and roll logs on trailer with tractor. Sure wish I was closer to help you. Those logs would be loaded right up...

My tractor will not come close to loading most of the logs down there. They are almost all 24-36 inches in diameter and 4-6 foot long I bet some of them with crotches weigh over 1000lbs easy. The land owner (a nut farmer) said his biggest tractor won't come close to picking them up. My little old Kabota certainly won't do it.

I did head down to the hoard and worked today. Cut some more and cracked down to manageable size what I cut yesterday. Will head over and load the splits tomorrow for the trip home. Forgot my gas can, so the wife had to bring it down to me. She brought the wood dog for a visit.

Anyone that says bigger is better is nuts. its way more work wrestling those 34" rounds around to the splitter, and you have to split them vertically. I'll take 12" stuff all day long...

That oak tree is massive but wow the amount of btu's your gonna have. Saying that, anytime we need to get back to work so we can get some rest from our hoarding adventures. Yep maybe just maybe we should leave it for the folks with the heavy hoarding artillery. bigfrank just try to vision all that oak css.
You and the wife on a cold rainy NorCal night toasty warm. It will be worth it right? right? bigfrank buzzsaw Brad. anyone it'll be worth it right?
