Breakfast with Dad this morning. He is steadily declining. Tough to watch. My Mom is finally getting to the point of accepting the need for more help. My brother has helped line up more hours for two LPNs, in addition to the one we had. They seem to be good people. Right now about 6-8 hours a day of coverage including us “kids”. Most of us know and agree he needs 24 hour care now. Has for a while. Or at least care from 16:00-06:00 until we get here in the morning. Tough to get everyone to agree on how that’s done though. But, it’s her decision. Another brother is looking into how long the list is at the local nursing home. All the paperwork is now done.

Yes, a very tough situation Gas. Having been through it, I can relate to what you are experiencing. Glad there is extended family to make the journey somewhat easier. Good luck as you continue on this journey.

Sorry about this. It is very sad seeing this and it really stinks that there isn't anything we can do to stop it. Hang in there.

Making these decisions is always hard. We were in that position once with my Father-in-law. You have a close family to be as devoted as you all are to your dad and mom. It’s especially great that you spend a lot of time there. Knowing when to make that decision for extra help or a nursing home took us a long time to get to. Good luck with getting the necessary care for your dad. Keeping you all in prayer.

Gasifier thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through these difficult times. My wife is same boat with her Dad she is having a tough time with it and all I can do is support Her as she is the only one to make decisions for Him. Hang in there.

Brutally hard decisions to be made, I'm glad your family is on board with all helping and trying to make the right decisions.

My grandfather had a stroke, then accelerated dimensia. Grandma passed quickly from cancer during this time, so he was moved to Texas with my aunt. As he got worse, my dad and aunt agreed it was best for the kids not to have to watch that decline so closely. My dad moved down there for a year and rented an apartment to take care of him before ultimately moving him to a memory care unit. It was an incredibly hard year for my dad. Both mentally, and physically.

Wanting to keep them close to you at home is totally understandable, but their safety and your own mental well being need to be kept in mind too.

As has been said before, this is a tough decision to make. Your mother, quite rightly, doesn't want to admit that she is losing her lifetime partner. You and your siblings' support is so important at this time to help her through this. For her health I hope you can find room for your father in a care home.

The big divide, as to finding an assisted living or nursing home placement, is if Medicaid is paying, or if the family has the funds available to pay. A slot can magically open if you are paying cash, and mysteriously close if Medicaid pays.
Some private facilities don't even accept Medicaid patients.
You are lucky that family members want to be involved. No matter how good the facility (and none of them are great), the resident's life is improved immeasurably by having family visiting regularly and keeping an eye on things. Once they become incontinent, you have to make sure every day that the staff keeps the bed dry and the diapers changed.

I think I found that one in NC if I remember right. But I have seen trucks worse than I'd think down that way mind you. But probably the same as the few you do see here, maybe only used for towing a camper in the summer, or at the very least kept washed and looked after through summer and garaged for winter.

Now, when you see a low miler parked outside (especially on grass), appearing to get used year round but just not that often.......run. I'm wondering how fast my truck could keep going downhill now that she's taken off the road, parked on grass a minutes walk from the ocean. I guess I'll find out haha

The meeting was anticlimactic, (shrugs shoulders), but now he's all set up for future ones. He wore the red tie, he was right, it looked great!

Weather is amazing here. 65 and sunny with a light breeze. I think I can actually hear the grass growing.

Had a meeting this morning in Saginaw. A long one. Glad that is over.

Much cooler today but still quite nice except the wind is coming up. Looks like this week will be windy. Does anyone fly kites any more?

Put the backhoe on the tractor yesterday and did some digging. More to be done. Got the log splitter out of the barn too. It's ready to go.

With the tremendously warm weather, look what popped out of the ground! I'm betting they will be hiding in another day or two. In the meantime, more has popped up.
