We don't usually do to much on Sundays when I'm off, but a friend from work lives about 2 miles from us called. Wanted to know if I wanted some firewood logs, already down, trimmed up and he would load them. All we had to do was hook up dump trailer and cut them to length. Had almost a trailer load. Just the right size for my hunny to split...
It's our bow blade. Bought back in late '90's when we got the MS029. Changed it over to 3/8 pitch from .325. It's on the MS362 while huskihl is working his magic on the 029...
If this thread had almost any other author, after reading that title I would have been a little worried that the content was not necessarily so family friendly! Can't beat that score with a stick! So what's the advantage of using the bowsaw there?
Thanks for the compliment.... Using the bow on smaller logs like this, with the open area behind the chain, lessens the pinch factor, plus you don't have to bend over as far to cut the logs. This blade was used extensively by ol' timey pulpwooders. They cut short logs about 6 1/2 ft long, loaded on 1 or 2 1/2 ton trucks and hauled to rail yard, and shipped to pulp mills. They had bigger bows too, that one is a 12", had 14 & 16" bows also. I grew up using only bow saw. Had to learn bar blade later on. I'm bringing it to Dennis's GTG.
so thats what it's called. I saw an old chain saw at a pickers auction years back and it had a bar like that on it. Another thing learned on FHC! Do they still make them?
I'm pretty sure they are not sold in th US due to safety concerns . Not sure about other parts of the world.
They are no longer made due to safety concerns. You can still find them around. Take a little bit to get used to!
I'm planning on it. I'm going to put it back on the 029 when huskihl brings it down. Want to use it to cut your smaller logs up.
There is a company that makes a small bow, used mainly to cut Christmas trees. Southern Forestry Products, Inc. :: Cutting Bars The one we have is a little smaller than the one you have on the Mac.
